Absolutely great, that's the only way to describe it. I just hope all the others who came on our fishing jaunt are of the same opinion.

' The other bank ' has sent in his view of events but to put on paper the fishing (all 3 days), the nights out and most of all the laughs we had, would take all day.It was much better than the first year we went but I'll guarantee the next year (if we go) will be even better.

There are some things I have to mention!

Thanks to Bulti and Shane and Bear for taking the Van, it was a great idea and made a lot of things easier. Also for those same people for loading it and carry gear for the older fraternity to and fro from their pegs.

Much appreciated.

The new recruits they fitted in really well.

Toft Lakes 906 lb 1oz (average of 47lb 6oz)
Shearsby Valley 171lb 10oz (never again) rubbish EVEN ONE PERSON BLANKED!!! (9lb average)
Parkers 435 lb 2oz (24 lb average).

Total of 1512lb 13oz (average of 26 lb 8oz per person per day)

To finish.... the weather was great, the fishing was great (well two days) and the company was brilliant.

Been there done that we might even get the tee-shirt,

What a lovely weekend, good weather, good fishing, good food and fantastic company, thanks to everybody for a most enjoyable weekend and a special thanks to team leader Wall for a good job well done.

It was a Pot Black trip of epic proportions, travel and transport arranged, gear collected and the convoy assembled at the A47 liaison point at 6.45 am, mad man gottsy overshot the layby but soon covered the 5 mile detour and was back in the layby in minutes. We swapped “Little Nigel Blowers” for the more athletic Bear in an attempt to slow gottys down with a little weight handicap but this still failed and he covered all routes at breakneck speeds (although leaning heavily to the offside).

The “Hill Billy Crew” where a man down as Bruce dare not come even though he had been home nearly 12 hours after a 6 week trip away, (few more years and you will be on the fishing trip Bruce), so Kieran was phoned in sick to school and slotted into the Audi estate for a weekend away with the “grown ups” ( think Kieran was more sensible than most) as last year the Hill Billy’s made their own travel arrangements and went forward on a scouting party.

The Team leader was running “point” as the Navara had both “Sat Nav” and a map !!, several excuses and a detour later we arrived at the “Little Thief” for breakie more or less as planned, after a good feed and a comfort break the draw was carried out for the first match and we set off again to the venue. After a little detour we arrived at the entrance to the first venue, then we drove the 3 miles ! down the private drive to the lake, but what a top class venue it was, lovely lake absolutely top class facilities and a good days fishing was had by all.

Weigh in sorted it was another trip to the hotel, but Steve Moyse managed to lock his keys in the back of his van again ! so half the club where detained while Bulti demolished Steve’s rear door lock, then it was off to Ansty with Nigee’s little voice ringing in my ears “I said we should of fished earlier it’s too late to eat now”,( still managed a large gammon steak chips and all the trimming EVEN THOUGH IT WAS GONE 10 pm when his food finally arrived !!! ).

The hotel was as good as the previous year and really is excellent value for money.

The Saturday breakfast was excellent and the draw had taken place the previous evening so it was back in the vehicle’s and off to venue number two, another fantastic looking venue but as is often the case looks can be deceiving. The start of the match was delayed as The Hill Billy Crew’s “we always find the venue with our own natural homing system” obviously needed its gyroscope resetting as they left ½ hour before the rest and turned up ¾ hour after us all (erm), not the best days fishing we have had although not the worst and the weather was absolutely wonderful.

Back to the hotel with dinner booked for a more respectful 7.45 pm sit down it was a quick splash and dash change ready for dinner then off to the Ansty Social Club to see the fight, a slight technical hitch occurred in the form of a “special offer” at the hotel which resulted in 8 bottles of wine appearing on the table as we had bought 16 main meals, it was at this point I realised that the evening was going to be memorable. The hospitality at the Anstry club was very welcoming although the fight was somewhat disappointing (I did manage to win the sweep stake for the money on the fight result), back to the hotel for a night cap in the courtyard resulting in a public warning from the night porter.

Sunday morning was another good breakfast with one or two members slightly quieter than usual and young Lewis looking defiantly a little worse for wear, check out and a short ride to the venue, a draw had taken place but some members still had a semi “flexi peg draw” and picked a peg they liked the look of. A much better days fishing although slightly congested around the “island pegs” and another first in my fishing experiences as I spent most of the day trying to stop “chickens” eating my bait !.

The formal results and statistics will be posted separately by team leader but here a few of the non fish weight variety :-

0= The number of fish one member caught in a 6 hour match from the “Hot Peg” where the Lake Record was caught from.
1 = The number of people who bought a new landing net handle only to find out the landing net head they have would not fit !.
2= The number of poles / rods that got pulled into various lakes luckily both to be retrieved and reunited with their owners.
3= The number of new rods that need to be purchased after being broken on the weekend.
4= The number of new pole sections one member needs after a misplaced foot stood on his top 4 sections.
5= The number of times a member thrashed the ground and swore after losing another fish.
6= The number of times one junior member cast into the next swim in 1 hour in 1 match.
7= The average number of new swim/method feeders each member lost and needs to replace.
8= The average number of minutes it takes Keville to realise he has a bite and then “strike”.
16,876= The number of calories Shane averages in a meal.

The prize money was shared out between all members and by way of the Pot Black rules which state you can only win one lot of money everyone won something, (well everyone except for one member), but in all ways we are all winners a really good weekend and cannot wait till the next one.

FISHING AWAY TRIP RULES

As I promised last week, here are the fishing tips for the weekend away. The time is flying by and I don't know about you but I can't wait to take some money off you lot. (Not if it's anything like Halesworth last week but I just put that down to that bloody Jonah Chillo!)

Friday 1st July Toft Farm

I spoke to Esther the Lady owner of the Lake who gave me her view of this relatively new water.
The lake is of 4 Acres and has an island at one end which are were our pegs are and nearly everyone will be able to fish to the island. The island can be reached by Pole so its not a big cast by feeder.

The lake has plenty of features in the margins and is around 6 ft 6ins average depth throughout. It's full of fish and was a just a carp water but in the last few years there has been a gradual influx of silverfish, mainly roach.

This does not take away that if you want to get a decent bag it's got to be carp. The fish mirrors and commons average 2-3lb but there are a lot of 2nd + 3rd generation of fish averaging up to a 1lb.

They still go up to 10lb but not lots of them. The general baits are the usual maggots, sweetcorn and pellets (PLUS SCERET BAITS IF YOU ARE NIGEE’S MATE !).
The ways to fish are method (fixed or inline), pole or up in the water. There are no-other water rules which are not covered by our own Club rules.

Bait rules are NO BALLING of groundbait and no throwing of excess bait in water afterwards. WE can use our own pellets for feeding and there are no other bait bans that affect us.
We all have been asked to use 2 keep-nets alternating between the two and any fish above 8lb are to be weighed and put back.

Last weekend the match winning weight was 112 lb with 32 fishing and the average weight for all the anglers was 56 lb.

That’s about it on Toft's so lets take a look at Saturdays venue..

WILLOW LAKE SHEARSBY

Nick the owner of the Water was all to willing to let me know about his lake and said he would walk round on the day and give everyone of us advice how to fish each swim if needed.
The Lake has 3 islands of which most of us will have a peg to reach one of the islands, but those who don't will have other features to fish to.

The lake averages 5 ft in depth, he stuck 1000 ½ to 1 lb fish in this year but most average between 3-4 lb with a lot go between 4-9lb.

There is also a good head of bream,crucian,barbel and roach. I asked was there much of them and he said he a silver fish match which was won with 60lb!!! The average club match catches over 100lb and the best match weight this season is 170lb.

Their Water Rules are NO fixed method feeders only inline.
Start with two keepnets with carp in one and silverfish in other, with a limit in each. (see our club rules).

Any carp above 8lb weighed and returned. Feed with THEIR pellets and all other baits we use are allowed,(Again no dumping of baits afterwards).

Baits which are fishing good now are meat,corn,expanders, maggots and pellets. Best methods are mainly pole with feeder not used as much. (He don't know the lazy lot we've got).They have a canteen on site and offered breakfast if we need it (it would be hard to beat all-you-can-eat at the Premier Inn. He said everyone should catch but I said we will soon prove that wrong!!!! So that's two down now for the last!

JACKS POOL, PARKERS FISHERY

Glynn (a bloke not my Glyn) the guy who runs these Lakes has been really helpful throughout trying to get us the best waters.

Jacks Pool also has an island with half of our pegs being able to reach it, the lake averages 6ft in depth with pellet-waggler, pole and method feeder the best ways to fish it.

There are no club fishing rules which are different to ours so we've got no problem there.
There are no bait bans or rules to worry us so it's been pretty easy so far, the water holds chubb ,F1's, carp of all sizes going up to 8lb. The last match was with79lb on paste fishing pole on the top 2 sections in the margins. The average match weight is about 60lb BUT AGAIN everyone should catch.

Another plus is that if we order beforehand he will bring drinks and burgers around the lake during the match.

WEEKEND MATCHES COMPO'S

So that's it on the lakes now its time to let you know the COMPO'S you'll be in!
I'll be collecting £40 from each one which will include water fees ( £19)
and rest will be the pools for the three days.

Each day there will be a singles competition with prizes of :-

1st. £20
2nd. £15
3rd. £10
4th. £5

There will also be a trebles at the same time with the top three trebles being
paid £10 per-person, £8 and £5 per-person.

There will also be the biggest fish each day which will be worth £10.
As in all Pot Black Compo's I want to share the money out as far as possible with the hope of everyone winning a little bit.

So the Pot Black rule of anyone can only win one prize per-person per-day will apply, with the LARGEST AMOUNT won on that day being claimed. This way, theoretically, there are are 14 prizes up for grabs each day, with the added prospect of getting 2 partners to pull you through.
Also as there are 19 (if Shane doesn’t start work first then this bit don‘t apply) of us so there will be 5 trebles and we are left with one group of 4. To get the foursome down to a fair trebles weight, the two middle weights in that 4 will be added together and halved and added to the top and bottom of the group to make the final trebles weight!!! (hope you got that!).

The trebles will drawn before each match with the first one at the breakfast break on the way there. The other two will be done in the premier inn bar each night after our meal.
Martin (Dingit) asked whether he could pay up front so he could get it out of the way. I don't mind keeping any money if it's easier for you lot as I've got all the hotel money anyway, if not I'll collect it at the breakfast also.

The prize money that you lot win will paid out on finals night with the rest of the seasons winnings and not on the weekend.

The lifts are sorted with:-

Bob + Skipper sharing.
The Moyse's.
Dingit, Keirron + Aaron.
Paul Chilvers + Banjo (obviously).
Me, Max, Louis + Kev in his motor.
Chillo, Harrod + Gottsy .
Bulti + Bear in the transit with our gear.

FISHING TABLE - WEEK 5

WINDYCLAY!

Well it did as predicted !!

It rained, the wind blew and then blew some more then it rained some more and to just cap a horrible day as usual nobody caught much, why do we do it ?

But in true Pot Black style a good turnout of members assembled at the caravan for yet another Pot Black first (I really do not know where team leader keeps getting them from), this one was a new one never before even thought of.

16 pegs divided into 8 good pegs that will fish, and 8 s--t pegs that you are more or less doomed to fail from the start !!, GREAT no guessing which peg I ended up with (and the wind straight in my face) along with 7 other lucky members, but off we went to the lake to give it a go !!

It was a doubles draw (hence the two sets of good pegs / bad pegs ) one of each for each pair !!, the pairs draw was carried out by Mrs Wall under supervision of Mr Wall and the danger that Keville may be getting too much of a lead is obviously large as the doubles draw shows !!

Dingit on the hot peg of the 8 pegs that will fish was first into a good fish, this unfortunately came off the hook and the true benefit of belonging to a club was immediately obvious as the whole lake let out a big cheer and several rounds of applause could be heard (melts your heart the care and concern that members show), however as often is the case old Amnesia had the last laugh and had top individual weight on the day. He was however beaten in the pairs by his son and heir Kieran and his partner Aaron with a really good top weight caught on a difficult day, and somewhat slightly let down by his partner daddy Bulti (but he did manage to hook one out of the reeds on his last cast).

Aaron was looking good on the golden peg but Banjo was able to provide a viable threat to him, and had he of spent less time on the phone to his confidant (the original Big Chilvers) he may well have caught more and won the day, but he still had a really good weight enough to help his partner into 3rd position after the weigh in.

Team leader and Steve Moyse fell out half way through the match and although being only a metre or two apart from each other did not talk much after the half way stage, (nothing to do with neither catching much and both reaching that hormonal age!) but I am assured that they will be back on speaking terms in time for the weekend away.

It really was the sort of day that you just need to put behind you and is best forgotten, its now just a few days till the “WEEKEND AWAY” all members are advised to read the Eastern Anglers Forum pages for tips and information on the venue, plus the rules and travel arrangements.

Please Please Please read the rules and tips that Team Leader has taken the time and trouble to post on the website it will help us all to have an enjoyable weekend away.

It is not often that I post a truly personal view on the web page but I have fished my last at “Windyclay” I will not be attending the barren windy peat hole again (there feel better now that’s off my chest) soon be on the weekend away hooray !!!.

FISHING TABLE - WEEK 4

TASWOOD / HALESWORTH

Things will change and as this is the Pot Black they have, the match was changed due to the Management at Taswood feeling that we would not catch much !!.

So it was off to Halesworth to fish a new lake that NOBODY IN THE CLUB HAS FISHED BEFORE, any member who subscribes to Dingits Eastern Anglers Forum will realise that Nigee sneaked over to Halesworth not to fish but only to let Declan have a practice (yea like we believe that one), the Wall went just to have a look !! happened to have his gear in the car but as Dingit and Kieran where already fishing when he arrived he just “watched” (it really is unbelievable the excuses that come out).

And that’s the ones who owned up, but practice does obviously make perfect as Nigee gave the Wall and Chillo a lesson in match fishing for the first couple of hours then just sat back and waited and waited and waited for them to catch up (they never did).

Dingit managed four “small fish” then took to sunbathing for the day eventually finishing third, the windy end of the lake was the place to be, although uncomfortable the fish where at that end, Keville fresh from another exotic holiday fished Lewis’s swim with great effect eventually finishing second, Banjo took both numbers and quality fish for top bag on the day and a good individual fish of nearly 10 lbs.

A special mention has to go to Lewis who had the first full “swim” of the season and this was a classic full submersion due to a slip, but he not only retrieved his gear from the reeds but “the fish as well” this was then put into his keepnet from the water !! (another Pot Black first). The sympathy and concern from all members was heart warming and genuine, this culminated in the team leader telling poor Lewis “you had better dry out or you aren’t getting in my car to go home” so nice to know he care’s. But this fish with the rest of his catch put Lewis in the money with 4th position knocking poor old Nigee into 5th place and out of the money and only receiving 2 points like the rest of us also ran’s.

Bear on the centre line was looking favourite but although catching a good number of fish they were all small and a rare statement to make regarding Bear he just did not weigh enough !!!, young Declan benefitted from his practicing with Granddad and put a very respectable bag of fish on the scales at the end and had sufficient to beat Kieran for top spot in the Juniors . Boycie did not enjoy the match much and took the early bath option tipping his fish back to accept 2 ozs and 2 points, this act inadvertently saved team leader from the wooden spoon as Boycie would have definitely beaten “The Wall” (more practice required for team leader).

But at least we did not go to Taswood and not catch much !!, next match is “Windyclay” so freak weather and howling gales are bound to occur (remember it hailed last time when we where there), we are fishing a new lake that nobody in the club has fished before (now I am sure I have heard that one before) so speak to Nigee / Dingit or the Wall as I am sure they may just happen to be passing Windyclay and just happen to have their gear in the car and might just have a couple of casts !!.

Till Fathers day and the worst fixture we have.

FISHING TABLE - WEEK 3

“We will fish with the wind on our backs !!!”

If they need a site for a new wind farm in Suffolk we have just the place, it was Horrible, the wind blew more than Bear and Shane put together after a night on the beer (now that is a lot of wind) and it did nothing for the catch rate as the results show.

It was a triples week, and again wishing to remove all accusations of draw rigging the draw was sent through siber space to deepest Norfolk for an independent draw and the opportunity for his nibs to cast accusations that someone else had “rigged the draw”.

The teams of three where announced and as we only had 14 down to fish a “floater” was drawn, this was club stalwart and resident gnome Roy Moyse, so Roy was to be in two teams, then Ardo took the sensible option and stayed in bed so the floater was put into another team as well !! (come on stay with it this is the Pot Black), this resulted in Roy coming First and Second but only gets 2 points as his “real team” finished out of the top 3 so he therefore would have been better of only catching one fish and just weighing in !!.

The wind was down the lake so onto everybody’s side, some put up brollies others just ruffed it out, it howled a gale all day “pi- -d it down” a couple of times just to add to the fun, hats blew in the water then blew against the wind and up trees, most members had something blown in and it was generally uncomfortable.

New senior Lewis was fishing well and was visited by several members to “borrow” some of his successful bait, when he was unwilling to allow team leader to have any he was threatened with a long walk home if he did not had over the required bait, another year and he will have his own car and I am sure we will all have to “get our own bait” because he is getting far too successful at this fishing lark.

The juniors where both missing, Declan due to Granddad being on his pottery holiday and Kieran due to the fact that his Dad’s amnesia is so bad now he actually forgot to turn up, so it was a “Seniors Only Match”, the weights were respectable but not good, everyone caught although Bruce threw his back without weighing in (great help to your team that, cheers teammate), not the best days fishing but it was a day out in the fresh air and we all at least caught something.

You will need to study the results sheet posted by team leader to find out who actually won the day as to say it is confusing is a little of a understatement, all I managed to clean from the weigh in / points total was as expected, team leader got higher than average points and poor Roy who won and came second got only two points (told Roy he was catching to many fish and was starting to be a threat to some of the glory hunters !!).

We have a Thursday match at the ever popular Burgh Apton then we have our first Pot Black “change from the fixture list” (its lovely to know that some things never change), due to extensive practicing at a second Halesworth venue nobody else new was there we are moving from the published fixture to the new venue. Match times are the same and you just go to the venue as normal but go right instead of turning into the car park on the left (scene of the first Pot Black Traffic incident) and follow the track down past the first lake to another lake further along.

Hopefully the weather will be kind to us, and according to “The Wall” it will fish well and is a lovely place to fish, so until the next one tight lines.

TABLE - WEEK 2

HOOK AND HAUL THATS THE WAY TO GO!

The forecast was for rain, rain and more rain but they got it very wrong and we were treated to a beautiful sunny day, Team Leader was keen to waylay all accusations of “draw rigging” and any other form of “skulduggery” and had passed the draw for the pairs over the county border to Norfolk for it to be carried out in a neutral environment.

So as the pairs had already been drawn we only had the “peg draw” to sort out, now things must be getting through as team leader and a representative group of members surveyed the lake and sorted out which pegs to leave out, we then put the pegs into the draw and “THE PEG YOU DREW WAS THE PEG YOU FISHED OFF !!!”, it won’t carry on this way but enjoy it while we can.

Now this was more like a proper Pot Black outing / match, two members never made the draw due to over celebrating the night before, one never made the match full stop, several had hangovers and felt ruff till way past midday.

Mad Bruce fishing well from the golden peg went walkabout leaving is rod and line unattended and still fishing only for the inevitable to happen, a fish takes the bait and drags the rod and reel into the lake, Bruce runs round and without any hesitation jumps in after his gear, looses the fish but gear retrieved to fish another day. A phone call to the present Mrs Roberts and she empties Bruce’s wardrobe and drives the 20 miles to bring him not only a change of clothes but “several choices” of clothes to change into, (must be love), this obviously had an effect on Bruce as his catch rate diminished and the winning weight and the £50 slipped from his grasp.

Steve Moyse’s swearing record has been beaten by team leader Wall, who fishing off peg 1 had a mare of a day culminating in “cracking section 4 of his pole” , (handy really he has not cracked that one before so it will go well with all the other sections he has replaced), but his partner and Club New Boy the other “Big Chilvers” carried him through to a podium finish, he will therefore have his winnings from finishing 2nd to spend on the repair.

The original “Big Chilvers” was drawn with his buddy and confidante “Banjo” and they were across the lake from each other so therefore had “both sides covered”, Paul C fished straight into the reeds and with the finesse similar to that of the USA Naval Seal Team sent in to get Osama Bin Laden set about “hauling” all the unsuspecting carp straight out and into his net, he achieved the individual winning weight and aided by Banjo they won the first pairs match of the season.

Louis fishing his first match as an “adult” (no longer a Junior) had a good day and with a little bit of help from his partner (yours truly) we managed 3rd position, the rest of the bunch all had fish although not as many as we would like and hopefully as the weather warms up the catch rates will increase.

Young Declan started well and as he was opposite his rival Kieran could see what he had to do for glory in the junior section, with Louis now fishing with the “Big Boys” its back to a two horse race, both fished well and are always in danger of showing us “seniors” how it should be done.

So after the 2nd match we can cross off :-

No show due to hangover .
First swimmer of the season (more of a deep paddle really but he did jump in).
Nigee missed the net with a fish, which would have moved him further up the positions and points !
Cracked pole section / swearing like a madman.
Dingits Amnesia has struck him bad again as he now cannot remember if he even cast in let alone how many fish he has caught.

But we have a new first for the Pot Black, A CAR CRASH BETWEEN MEMBERS !, for the benefit of those members who departed rapidly to see the football etc, Nigel reversed out into the middle of the car park from the right just as I did the same from the left. The resulting meeting of metal in the middle caused much joviality to those members left in the car park and team leader recons it is the funniest thing he has seen in years, funny how others people misfortune makes people laugh, wish I had gone on about him splitting his pole section more now.

NOW THAT’S MORE LIKE A POT BLACK FISHING MATCH.

So heaven only knows what will happen in the coming matches (and car parks) but it was another lovely day out, next match is at Topcroft 22nd May, local favourite and Topcroft regular Nigee is away on a pensioners tea dancing and pottery course so it could be anybody match, although “The Wall” is sure to put in 4 or 5 days practising between now and then.

Do not forget to look in your mirrors when reversing, till the next time.

Were off!!! The Pot Black Summer Season is under way, the long winter break is over and we are back in the loving, caring, and all round convivial company of our fellow anglers and peers (ermm).

Anyway some things never change Team Leader conducted the draw and stated he would win off any peg except 6 (he hates peg 6 and does not want 6) you guessed it he draws 6 makes a big big show about how much he hates peg 6, kicks his nets spits out a real large dummy screams and kicks then wins the match from the much hated peg 6 !!, he actually believes that we all believe the lame excess and attempts at trying to convince us all that he does not have it all rigged from the start.

Anyway 16 members took up position round the lake fishing for 2^nd position because as we all know team leader would be in first position, the hours of preparation and sorting out of the gear was overlooked by Paul Chilvers as on removing his nets for the required “dip” it was obvious to all the mice had eaten through both nets and his landing net !!. Mind you surprise of all surprises cousin Keville had a spare landing net and was willing to lend it to Paul (you would not get too good a odds on Keville remembering anything let alone having a spare).

Nigee was on best behaviour (and very quiet and non vocal) as he had Declan his Grandson fishing alongside him, the Bulti family are rapidly taking over and took up 3 pegs at this match, due to the hot weather they treated everyone unfortunate enough to be within viewing range to the winters work of the local tattooing parlours (should the hot weather continue counselling will be offered to those affect).

The family theme continued with the Chilvers cousins fishing across the sunny end of the lake from each other and the old father and son pairing of Roy and Steve Moyse also on the lake side, the rest of us where happy to leave the family behind and enjoy a day’s fishing on our own.

The weather was fantastic and the day was more or less perfect, somebody forgot to tell the fish but “you cannot have it all as they say”, the fishing was patchy to sparse and never really got going as we all know Burgh Apton can. Big Keville Chivers was doing well with Banjo being hailed as the only person able to stop him taking the “Golden Peg” money on his first real outing with the Pot Black, but he went off the boil in the second half and could only manage 3rd in the end.

Steve Moyse was as consistent as ever and just kept plugging away and put a good bag of fish on the scales for 2^nd, “The Wall” took top position from the one peg he did not want to fish from and saw no chance of him winning from there, ( Well as he has been practicing 2 / 3 days a week for the last 6 weeks solid he ought to know), Paul Chilvers made 4^th spot with the borrowed nets, and went on to negotiate purchasing the landing net from cousin Kev at special “family” rate.

Nobody fell in, no fish where dragged up trees, no poles snapped, even the ducks remained uncaught, it was all very mundane for a Pot Black outing, we had a few feeders over the island and the odd float round the reeds, well Trevor managed this in excess of 20 times. But all in all a very enjoyable day and a lovely start to the season, the Thursday match is at Holly Farm 12 noon till 6pm, Nigel is in charge as his nibs is away on a no expense spared luxury romantic break with the long suffering Mrs Wall and would probably fish with the veterans if he was here anyway.

Then it’s Halesworth on May 8th fish 10am – 4pm, make your own way there as Banjo is no longer available to lead point as he has ungraded the car and now has a sat nav !!!, mind you it was the sat nav that was the cause of an accident that damaged both of the Banjo mobiles and he had not made it out of his drive!!!.

Please remember that Halesworth if the home of the “Wally Fully Floating Peg” we will all draw, his nibs will then inspect his drawn peg, consult with Paul Chilvers and if they consider that a move is required they will move to any available peg they deem fit (been there done that got the tea shirt).

Hopefully the weather will be as nice and the fish co operative, till the next time tight lines.

Well its nearly time, only days to go until the start of the Pot Black fresh water fishing 2011 season.

The long winter break has seen a few changes, most noticeably in the retirement of team leader Wall from full time employment and the new management taking over the running of the Pot Black.

Apparently we will see no changes as far as the fishing club is concerned (still the same old smiling team leader) and according to she who must be obeyed (Mrs Wall) he is much happier now and does actually smile from time to time !!! (believe that one when we see it).

Anyway the first match should see a good turn out as its the ever popular Bergh Apton (get your names down as places are limited).

Banjo having reached the ripe old age of 50 during the winter break has finally sent the VW Golf to the knackers yard (although Wally did put in a bid to upgrade the Mondeo for it) and the new vehicle towing the old but faithful trailer is being loaded up ready for its first outing.

Bruce has been on several anger management courses over the winter and promises a new calmer Mr Roberts, Nigee has replace all of his fishing tackle and has several new top secret baits under development in the “lab” guaranteed to ensure as he stated last year “the cream will come to the top”.

Daddy Bulti has had a new “Shed” constructed in the garden (present cost slightly in excess of £4,000.00, that’s one big shed !!) to keep all the gear in, and prevent Shane from nicking it all when he is at work. Shane has spent the winter training at the gym, quite what he has been training for we do not know but we understand he can now sleep through an entire 6 hour match therefore eliminating the need to buy any bait.

The “Moyse Boys” now look more like brothers rather than father and son as Roy gets younger every year and Steve heads into middle age. The juniors are another year older and will soon not be juniors and more (bit of luck really as they are getting to good and being beaten by a junior is not good). Paul Chilvers is going to try and fish more matches this year and is said to be bringing cousin Keville along to a few matches as well.

Leader of the breakaway “Hill Billy Crew” Mr Dingit is more excited about fishing the Pot Black than any other of the many matches he fishes in !!, must be the comradery, friendship and all round loving environment that he enjoys, Kieran is “older wiser and going to show us all how it is done” this year.

The rest of us are just looking forward to getting on the bank and trying our luck.

Here is to a most enjoyable season “good luck to all” (just slightly more luck to me if that’s ok with everyone).

P.S. A certain newly retired member of the club decided that with a little more time on his hands he would take Nigee fishing a few times and get in a bit of practice before the start of the season, anyway after 2 or 3 sessions the unnamed member kicked poor Nigee into touch as he had wangled his way into fishing with the Veterans, most matches being at Burgh Apton on a Thursday, Nigee was now surplus to requirements.

First match the unnamed member did well and nearly won the day finishing 2^nd, and was very vocal about how the veterans should run their matches (I know you all think you know who the mystery member is don’t you). Anyway the next week he turns up for the 8am draw with only a minute or two to spare to be told “sorry we did the draw early there is not a peg for you”, now this did not go down too well as you can imagine and after pointing out the error of their ways he introduced them to a flexi peg “I will fish over there” which was obviously a good choice as he managed second again. He reiterated that a “8am draw should be 8am” and said he would see them all the next week, a week later he turns up at 8am the draw takes place and despite drawing between the two favourites our member puts in a sterling performance and wins the match !!.

The following week he turns up just before 8am for the draw and as he is the only person at the lake asks the farmer at Burgh Apton “where is everybody” “ did they not tell you” was the reply “they moved the match to Hallesworth”.

You think he might get the message soon !!!, you really could not make it up could you.

'CHAMPION DINGIT'

Well that’s it, all over the final curtain has been drawn over the Pot Black 2010 Championship.

And the winner is Mr Martin Dingit, defeating “The Wall” into 2nd position despite his nibs having top weight he was wiped out by one of his own “doubles draws”, well done Martin.

The knock out was also decided with Banjo and Nigee having a face off across the lake, age experience and the fact that Banjo never caught a fish means that Nigel has been true to his prediction at the start of the season and has “seen us all off and the cream has come to the top”, the winner of the knockout 2010 is Mr Nigel Blowers, well done Nigel.

As predicted in the last blog the weather at Windyclay surpassed its self, and in the words of Banjo “we had all 4 seasons in one go” it was windy (always is) it rained (usually does) but squalls and torrential downpours are a new version on bad weather even for the Pot Black Windyclay match, but the sun decided to shine for the weigh in and Nigel and Martins little faces shone all the more.

The club was ordered to be on early parade by Team Leader as he wished to suppress all accusations of draw rigging and conduct the draw live in the caravan prior to the match, this was duly obeyed by all members and we assembled in the caravan for the doubles / pairs / match draw (we forgot the golden peg , but this is the Pot Black after all).

The draw over with we set off to the lake, Bear tried ground baiting the path on the way round which is a new tactic (one that I cannot see catching on), peg 17 was “straight into the wind” but worth leaving in according to Stuart so no prizes for guessing who drew that peg (yours truly).

The camaraderie was lovely to see, Trevor was into fish early, the Wall hoped they all got off, Dingit hoped he caught more and more, (Trevor was Dingits partner) the Wall took fish early on, mainly from Bulti’s swim but he also had several casts into Trevor’s swim which involved going over young Kieran’s swim, but as usual he was unaffected by any comments directed towards him.

On the windy bank Nigee took fish and once he had reached two, sat back and was content to just torment poor Banjo and was only going to try again should Banjo catch a fish, Bruce managed to catch one of the “Windyclay Escape Artist Fish” which somehow managed to jump out of the net prior to the weigh in, Aaron proved that pole tactics were not the correct ones on the day, and yours truly sat face into the wind and just reiterated what a horrible place this is to fish.

Daddy Moyse was rather subdued and “Young Steve” showed the “Old Boy” up at the scales although as Roy reminded him he did teach him all he knew!, Daddy Bulti fishing next to the Wall had the only fish in his swim “nicked” by a couple of rogue casts by our team leader. A good day and Stuart and Nicola do a marvellous job with the catering / draw facilities etc etc, it seems strange that it is all over for another year but as they say all good things must come to an end.

So that’s it, Champion of 2010 is Martin Dingit winner of the knockout 2010 is Nigel Blowers, but we are all winners as it has been another marvellous season 11 Sunday matches, several times have changed, we even moved venues but generally Nigel has made it home at the predicted time so Brenda has managed to keep the catering to his requirements.

Congratulations and very sincere thanks must go to Michael (I know he is a bit temperamental and prone to the odd mood swings but we must let him know he is appreciated) for all his hard work in organising and sorting out the venues etc and please keep it going, also this year we have had a good set of “THURSDAY FRIENDLIES” and a very enjoyable and extremely well attended “Weekend Away” which again was enjoyed by all.

The last match will be a straight knockout at Burgh Apton were we are guaranteed a “Wally flexi peg” we may even see the old movable bush peg, and if we are really lucky we might even get the “ I ain’t never fished this side so I will go here” brought into play. But at a quality venue like Burgh Apton we will defiantly get a good match and if the weather is a little kind to us we might even see the magic “Ton Up” go into the nets for one or two of the club, till the last match.

HALESWORTH/BARFORD - THE OTHER BANK

Halesworth had been substitute for the Barford match and it was a 8.15am rendezvous in the lay-by at Pakefield, following his previous successful effort at leading the party to the venue Banjo was appointed leader and we all set off following the re-planked trailer and Golf to the venue. Another successful lead by Banjo and we all arrived in good time, the venue was surveyed by team leader Wall and his assistant Trevor, they return with the useful information that the “grass was wet” the two pleasure anglers where allowed to stay as we were going to peg round them.

Flexi pegs where not allowed this time (even if Paul Chilvers tells you to move) you drew your peg and fished from it, although we had a bit of the old Pot Black draw 12 fish from 23 etc just to add a bit of confusion, we also had the draw for the “knock out” it was to be Wally v Nigel and Banjo v Dingit, the Golden Peg was also drawn (before the match for once) and it was young Kieran with the £50.00 to fish for, everyone seemed to settle down at their drawn pegs with good time to spare and await the whistle.

Banjo and Dingit fished side by side, the Wall was opposite on a peg he wished he had left out and Nigel was down the “windy end” of the lake, the rest of us where spread out quite evenly on the rest of the pegs. From the whistle Mr Wall was straight into fish and had three before anyone else got a look in, Banjo went on the pole while Dingit used the feeder to the middle of the lake, Nigel discovered that the information that “the grass was wet” would of been useful to heed as his Desert Wellies are not good in wet grass, but this did not stop him beginning his assault on the Carp in the lake.

Kieran was fishing well and Uncle Bruce on the corner peg developed a new “sprint to your rod and strike” style of fishing which he has to work on to perfect, the short walk end with father and son Moyse was a bit quiet , Aaron was getting fish but small was an understatement although he hoped quantity would outdo quality. Chief organiser Chilvers was next to Wally but do to flexi peg being cancelled was unable to encourage him to move but was rewarded with a particularly happy and chirpy Wally to sit next to for 6 hours.

Bear was in the corner and displayed more gear than anyone else, he now just needs to by a van to get it all in and he is about sorted, Daddy Bulti, Trevor and myself where in the opposite corner straight into the wind which was not very pleasant to say the least but it did not rain. I removed a few reeds with my new toy to enable the margin to be fished, but as most fish came from the middle of the lake it was not very productive. Boyce was next to the eventual winner but is happy to just get through the day without losing / breaking any tackle at the moment and is going to sort out catching fish later on, young Louis was next to Dingit and myself and caught all his fish in the last hour and a half, had he caught at that rate all day he would of had the winning bag.

Come the final whistle Nigel was talking down his catch so we knew he was quietly confident, Dingit had no idea what he had caught and all the usual excuses where coming out, in the end Banjo topped the scales and removed Dingit from the knockout, Nigel was 2nd and therefore removed Team Leader Wall from the knockout ! Dingit was 3rd so he beat team leader and therefore draws level on points for the Championship.

So with two matches to go Dingit is taking out extra life insurance policies and is avoiding eating at the Pot Black to ensure he is not “knobbled” in the run up to the end of the season, Mr Chilvers is looking good for 3rd and Wally will be putting in two to three days practice at both venues and hoping he will get a favourable draw as the rest of us sort out the middle positions.

The next match is at New Lake Hinderclay so if you thought today was windy and inhospitable just you wait till 29th August when we arrive at “Windyclay”, till the next time (do not forget your waterproofs).

BURGH AMPTON - THE OTHER BANK

It has to be the best venue we fish !

This was a “Triples Draw Match”, this involved a meeting of the chosen few in a dark corner of a snooker hall at a time when very few witness would be around, as predicted after Thursdays excellent showing and a podium finish Wally’s team of three included Nigel (back as his best mate even if he did beat Wally and Max in the Poker Saturday night). Wally’s main rival for the championship was put with myself (unable to catch a cold at the flue clinic at present me) and Ardo.

The pegs where grouped into 3 and then sorted out by the teams (marvellous idea and worked well), the favoured pegs near the bridge where occupied by Bruce and myself, but the venue being as good as it is all pegs where producing fish, I continued the diabolical run of form and was bad enough to unsure Paul Chilvers could not win the match (very tactical this Pot Black), Wally fishing from Peg 10 was unable to get into the required quantity but used his team to carry him through.

Martin Dingit was fishing from peg 3 and produced a truly marvellous bag of fish to be the second club member to get over the 100 lbs bag and win the match well done Martin, father and son Moyse fishing next to each other on the back bank had fish all day. Come the weigh in it was close but Roy showed the “boy” how it is done and was the heavier weight, the juniors had good weights and Kieran managed to catch more than Aaron (Kieran said “ it was not difficult, he would of had more but his Dad would not let him cast out”).

Banjo was distance casting to the Island and produced a really good bag from the un-fancied peg 1, Boyce had a very uneventful day and I believe managed to finish without losing/breaking any of his tackle, Nigel even turned his radio down so he did not hear the result of the Hungarian Grand Prix. Nigel was very quiet and was not heard or seen very much at all (the pressure of being in his idols team was probably too much for him, but he did try).

An unbelievable amount of fish where caught and everyone had an enjoyable day, several members put two nets in from the start and that just shows how confident you can be at a venue of this quality. The end is now insight and the tassel for top honours is gathering pace, although with a couple more “doubles” and maybe even another “triples” the way things go you could see “P Clements” making a late run for the top position (who is P Clements ?).

Another great day at as previously stated “Probably the best venue we fish” (from a social as well as fish point of view).

WEEKEND AWAY - THE OTHER BANK

Well the 7 “P’s” where put into play by team leader Wall, “Perfect Planning and Preparation Prevents Piss Poor Performance” WHAT A SUPER SUPER WEEKEND AWAY WE ALL HAD.

We really do all want to say a very big “THANK YOU MICHAEL” well done.

Now with that over with back to the usual, we got lost (and I mean really lost), the Welsh gentleman on the gate at the Ghurkhas Barracks had never heard or seen the lakes just 500 metres down the road (miserable welsh t--t was muttered from our leaders lips), the lady at the first Premier Inn we went to seemed very nice and kindly gave us directions to the one we were actually booked into about 5 miles away. The “HILL BILLY CREW” in the Audi estate had no sat-nav, map or any idea they claimed they just used their sixth sense and went straight to all venues Hotels etc. This obviously only worked in the car as chief of the “Hill Billys” was unable to find the toilet 5 paces away in the room on the first night !!.(The poor lady who witnessed the mishap has been sent for counselling) the thought of Dingit in his underpants wondering around in the middle of the night is enough to make you double lock your door.

The weather was very warm to hot, not conducive to large catches but most members got fish and a few of the usual stars showed that they are worthy of the top places in the club and shone through on all days. New member “Bear” appeared to enjoy himself and the other new member, Keville, lost most things most of the time left other things behind but again enjoyed the weekend.

The senior members showed us all that your appetite does not dwindle with age, Roy ate and drank his way through most of the menu, the site of Nigel washing down 3 or his pills with a large Bacardi and Lemonade will stay with me for years, keep it up boys we all hope to still be enjoying the fishing if we are lucky enough to make to your ages.

The younger members of the club showed that the wisdom that comes with age is a valuable asset and where unable to keep up the pace with out taking a little afternoon “siesta”. “Bless” at least his mummy will love him.

The two friendly days over with Sunday saw the actual Pot Black match, team leader left the clip board in the bar after the World Pool Championship (he won that as well), but chief helper Nigel picked it up in an effort to get some brownie points and move back into favour with team leader. Might of worked had he not have left it in his hotel room after we had checked out and only discovered his small lapse of memory after we had travelled the 5 miles to the venue (having told me on the way how he had been up since 5am ensuring nothing was left in his room).

Anyway a quick dash back to the hotel and then back to the venue and we were back cooking on gas, the lake / canal / thing with an island in it, had been surveyed and given the old “Pot Black Magic”, corner pegs where favourite with the bottom end out of the wind the most sort after although a longer walk was involved. We apparently were all given a “semi floater peg” in that you could move one peg either way if you did not like the look of your drawn peg, as usual some members decided to bend this nearly to breaking point, others did not hear this at the draw and struggled from there drawn peg.

Chief of the Hill Billy’s fishing from the three pegs and a good bit of the bank not pegged in the bottom corner produced a truly wonderful bag of fish to take top honours in the match, team leader and the very much in form Mr Michael Wall was going great guns from the start but faded away half way through (got the old problem back then Michael !!), as he had insufficient feed to keep both the ducks and the fish interested, but still managed a good weight and a podium finish.

Other members had mixed fortunes ranging from “ not even a bite in 6 hours Banjo” to Paul Chilvers in his Out Of Africa outfit catching but really only watching Martin land fish.

After the weigh in and a most confusing run through of the results which seemed to be impossible for anyone other than “team leader” to actually understand it appeared that we all won (well all bar a couple apparently) which was a marvellous way to end a truly marvellous weekend.

Thanks to everyone for a lovely weekend, everyone to a man has expressed appreciation at the organization that was put into the weekend and we again thank Michael for all his efforts, can we please have another “weekend away” put into the fixtures for next season.

THE POT BLACK SUMMER FISHING HOLIDAY

MAKIN FISHERIES

14 of the Englands best anglers made the long journey to Makin Fisheries, Nuneaton to show their ability of catching fish. While on the other side of country 14 rag-a-muffin fraudsters left Lowestoft in the vain attempt of getting there without getting lost! With numerous Sat-navs primed between them, they got all the way to Beccles before the convoy split with half going to Diss and the rest going the long way round to NAARwich. Numerous phone calls later and the Naarwich crew putting their foot down at every opportunity to prove " THEIR WAY" is quicker we all had breakfast and made it to the lakes in ample time.

Lake 4 was the venue and a fine lake it was. Everyone was in buoyant mood and the Skip was straight into a fish. Banjo was quick to follow and all the fish seemed to be their side! The six hours flew by with everyone getting some action. Banjo came out top rod with 66 lb, Wally next with 64 lb Paul Chilvers 3rd with 47 lb and Shane without a sleep with 46 lb. Everyone got lost finding our digs but when we did it was well worth it. A quick shower, change of clothes, it was straight to the bar for a few pints. Bob Nudd arrived with his brand new poofy "BENCH!" gear on so everyone tried to stand with their backs to the wall!! Most took it easy but those who did make a pig of themselves regretted it in the morning. Dingit thought his loo was in the corridor so the young lady who caught him in his bright pink y-fronts is said to be progressing steadily and should be out of therapy within a year!!

The next match was on thames-canal and was pairs! It was hot and hard going. No. 1 spot went to Skipper Nigel (with the ever growing plaster) + Aaron Ayers with 30lb, 2nd was Wally + Bob Nudd (who had his second bad hair-day) with 27 lb and third was Banjo and that old sea-dog Kevill Chilvers who walked off and fished his rod out of the lake, with 25 lb. Everyone caught except Snr Bulti who is rumoured to have chucked his rod about after losing his only fish!!!

(Shane managed to get an hours shut-eye! [picture to follow] and Paul Chilvers weighed in a dead perch). The night was a good laugh with everyone getting a good nights sleep after the worst world pool compo in earths history!

Sunday was the club singles match and unfortunately was on another canal. Everyone didn't catch and it was not the ideal venue! Roy Moyse joined the holiday barbel club and his son Steve landed a fine carp of 8lb 8oz with no swearing! Martin (flasher) Dingit won with 73 lb, 2nd was Wally with 35 lb , 3rd was Paul Chilvers (with the same perch) with 32 lb and 4th was salty (KEV) 15 lb .

Prize money is as follows;-

Smarty pants Dingit £50 (£30 compo + £20 heaviest fish of 3 days)

Bob Nudd £15 (£5 compo + £10 heaviest days fish on countback(some -how!!)

Wally£55 (£35 compo + £20 heaviest 3 days weight)

Banjo £18 compo.

Shane £3 compo + a blow up pillow.

Steve Moyse £10 heaviest fish on sunday.

On the way the prize money was dished out only 4 people didn't receive any. This was unfortunate but even they will have to agree what a great weekend away it was and how pleasant it was to fish some new waters. Thanks for your texts and support it was a brilliant time and you never know it just might happen again in the future.

It’s The Pot Black, anything can happen ! and just when you thought you had seen it all, the all time classic a Wally “flexi peg draw”.

The match was rescheduled to enable the football fans in the club to be home in time for the 3pm kick off against Germany (with the benefit of hindsight we would have been better to have left the match as it was).

We met at the nice and early “sparrows fart” time of 6.30am in the layby by Mac Donalds Pakefield, once the usual “best time of the day” “we ought to do this more often” and various other daft comments issued by the insomniac’s in the club where over with we were informed of the draw for triples/doubles/knockout by our leader and everyone was thoroughly confused we set off for Halesworth with Banjo taking up “point” ( no sat nav) just good old fashioned directions, and we went straight to the water.

Another lovely day with warm sunny weather not at all what the Pot Black usually expects, but we must not complain, Banjo discovered how far “friendship” goes when Paul Chilvers announced he had previously fished the lake and was confident that his practice session would be sufficient to dispatch Banjo from the knockout (and he was right).

Some locals fishing “our lake” where removed to another water and our team leader set about the draw, a rarity with Pot Black draw 6, fish off 6 etc so all was simple, draw over with, we all set off to our allotted pegs. Then it happened “don’t like the look of peg 12” said our leader, I'm going to fish that one over there, looks loads better, and with that moved himself 5 pegs further round the lake to his chosen peg.

Its times like this that Wayne Moore and Mark Colman feel really envious that they are unable to fish with the Pot Black due to much more pressing matches.

From the off team leader was into fish and proved that the “flexi peg” draw was defiantly the right decision, young Kieran needed Uncle Bruce to take his first swim of the season to retrieve his tackle from the reeds. Bulti went to sleep (nothing new there) and was woken by his rod flying off the rest as the fish took his bait, Boyce continues his run of luck (another pole section) and a couple of other little mishaps.

Amnesia Dingit broke his landing net and generally most of us continued to ensure the local tackle shops stay in business, “flexi peg Wall” continued to take fish throughout the match and was individual top honours come the weigh in.

The weigh in was another first as it was over in near normal times and the Wall was not the last person to pack up and was very very nearly the first, the results are shown above along with the knockout results etc, you can now start to see the top rods pulling away from the rest of us.

It is very nearly time for the “Holiday” 3 days with 3 matches one on each day, it will be impossible to keep the blog up to date with all that information (and three nights/ mornings), so we may well only report on the actual “Match” which we believe is to be fished on the Sunday but as we know with the Pot Black “things can and indeed will change”.

We were down to fish 10am – 4pm and as members sat eating there breakfasts may were wondering if they had got the wrong day, very little wind, not pi—ing down with rain, this cannot be a Pot Black match.

But as they assembled in the car park at the lakes with everyone else expectations where running high, conditions were right, our leader was surveying the lakes with his committee and on returning to the car park announced a new classic to be put into the Pot Black History.Wait for it this one is really good !, if you draw 3 you can fish pegs 1,2 and 3 either individually or just one, or move about at will throughout the match !. Peg 6 was also one of the new floater pegs giving you the opportunity to fish 6,5,and 4 all at the same time or as you wish throughout the match.

Everybody else had to stay on the peg they had drawn, and just to add to the confusion if you drew peg 12 you fished off peg 12 likewise peg 8 you fish from peg 8, just when I had about sussed out Wally’s wangle of add on 4 take off his mother’s birthday and add another date he goes back to a near normal draw !!.

Our leader was longing for a peg on the lawn of the bungalow, fishing the lily’s but as I drew his 4th peg in a row for him on the opposite bank he threw a little tantrum (well the pen anyway), then the golden peg was drawn and it turned out to be our leader, to say he was not confident was a little of an understatement.

Boyce’s run of luck continues as he sent sections 4 and 5 of his pole into the lake never to be seen again before the start, slipped in a hole trying to catch them and got a foot full up to his knee, decided to set up his ledger rod and then dropped his only rod rest in, I did try not to laugh but its times like this that make fishing the Pot Black worth all the effort.

From the off The Wall was looking good with fish after fish, his two little helpers where put to work mixing his ground bait sorting through his tackle and generally ensuring everything ran smoothly for our leader (see photo below).

Paul Chilvers was maintaining phone contact with the other end of the lake and news came through that further Pole sections where required as Banjo had stood on two of his sections and was considering “throwing his into the lake” a good day if you own a tackle shop. Roy “The Tree” Moyse let slip where Steve gets his repertoire of bad language from and spent a good couple of hours trying to retrieve his tackle from all the trees and bushes around him.

Kieran feed the ducks throughout the match until one took his bait dragging his pole into the lake behind it (obviously keeping a good eye on your float Kieran). Then just to prove the “Dingit luck” has passed down the generation the duck dragged its self up onto the bank with the pole in tow right next to Kieran who kindly gave his hook to the duck for its trouble and retrieved his pole and tackle none the worse for its swim !!.

The match was looking pretty close with several members having what looked like good bags of fish, but as this was a “Pot Black Pairs” we all know you could win and come 3rd or 4th and not catch a fish and still win !!, so everything was dependant on the weigh in. Despite talking his catch down and everyone else’s up top bag and the £50.00 golden peg swindle went to our leader with a match winning weight of 47 lbs 12 ozs, well done Michael, but as his partner (Roy) was unable to weigh in the trees and undergrowth he ended up 3rd.
Top spot went to Mr Amnesia (I have not caught much) Dingit and mad Bruce, second went to Pegs 4,5 and 6 with Louis and the man on the peg Wally wanted Steve Moyse full details on attached results sheet.

The next match is the midway point when the front runners (Paul Chilvers, Amnesia Dingit, The Wall etc) will start to pull away from the rest of the pack (watch out for a couple of extra triple / double / who knows draws) just to add to the fun.

The holiday weekend is getting close please stay in contact with team leader and watch the web for travel details starting times etc etc.

FISHING HOLIDAY AWAY!!!!!!

Time is getting on and the holiday is beckoning...... and I don't know about you but I'm starting to get all excited!!! It's more about the fishing than going away with you tossers!!
Anyway I rung Makin Fisheries up and being I'm the most HONEST bloke about(ask ******) I'll divulge all the the info with my compadries.
First:- We are meeting at 6.15am at the Carlton Crown for anyone who wants to go up there together. By the way, if either SKIPPER,BULTI offer to lead OR USE THEIR SUPER-DUPA SAT NAV, tell them to shove it as they still can't find the local fisheries we've been going to for the last 5years!!! The first match on Friday is roughly 11.30 to 4.30 depending on circumstances.(ARRIVING, FOOTBALL ,NIGEL GETTING LOST,ETC)
The lake we are attempting to beat on Friday is LAKE 4. Its roughly 2 acres of water with an island at one end. It's primarily a feeder lake but getting a big bag on the pole is not unheard of. The word is to start with a method/ cage feeder to start but keep an eye on the margins for later. They have recommended .18 line or 5 to 7lbs on the feeder as 20 fish will be over 100lbs. There are a big head of carp and most of them arn't small. Baits recommended are pellets luncheon meat in fact all the usual suspects.Depth of the lake is 6 to 8 feet if rigs are to be made.
also pellet waggler have been getting results.

Sat: - Thames lake. This a canal with an island in the middle! (Don't sound much of a shape for a canal to me?) Anyway if you are into pole fishing, its 12 metres to get hard up to the island. If you don't fancy that, its an under arm lob for the lazy feeder boys! The fish are smaller here 2 to 3lbs so rigs and line can be lighter. Depth on the island margin is 2 feet and in the middle is 5 to 6 feet. same baits as the day before and the match should be 10 or 11 to 4 or 5 pm depending on the night before, etc, etc.

Sunday:- Derwent or pleasure lake. Its not decided yet as if Derwent don't produce any good bags he's going to put us on one of the pleasure lakes. Derwent is a canal (but it might have islands) but ANY OF THE lakes will have more a mixed bag of fish and not just carp. Still about 6 to 8 feet deep and the same baits. Match starting time to be decided at the weekend.

Rules :- no floating baits.
Keepnets are to be stretched out behind pegs and put in 10 minutes before start.
Everyone should put 2 nets in from the beginning and alternate fish between them. We will still keep to our rule of 50lb in a net and if over 60lb in a net that net will be disqualified.
(If another net is needed they've got plenty to lend us!)
WE CAN ONLY FEED THEIR FEEDER PELLETS WHICH ARE AVAILABLE FROM THEIR SHOP!!
Tinned hemp only!
NO BRAID ON HOOK LENGHTS.
All meats are ok.
Fixed feeders are ok!
Groundbaits are allowed for feeders.
no nuts.
Use carp mats( GRASS ISN'T AS GOOD NIGEY)

It might be worth our while setting up a sailing club, because if you want it howling a gale you can now more or less guarantee a good breeze to gale force any time the pot black decides to go fishing.

This week was a special “Wally’s Triples” the draw for the teams had taken place earlier in an independent neutral environment (someone insinuated Wall’s office under the cover of darkness, but Nigel’s comments were ignored).

Once the initial comments over the draw where over with, you then drew your batch of 3 pegs to sort out amongst yourselves, “they are all on the other side so we will be able to get out of the wind” said our leader. With that Boyce tried to put his gear back in the car and head for home, he was reassured by other members that it would be genuinely possible to get out of the wind today providing he got his new “posh” brolly out of its bag.

Team leader Wall had drawn with new top dog Paul Chilvers (Wayne two rods Moore had elected to fish with Shell at Waveney fisheries so was unavailable to fish) in his team along with yours truly as the sympathy vote, Nigel was team leader for the “feeder boys” (himself and the two Bulti’s), Dingit was the filling in a Roy and Steve Moyse sandwich. Boyce (new brolly), Lewis and Aaron where drawn together and the final team was Kieran, Mad dog and Boyce as a floater due to the fact that Banjo was unable to fish due to large thumb pressure to the top of his head caused by not realising that July involved 3 Sunday matches and he had told the wife he would only be fishing twice a month !!!.

Those at the bottom end of the lake drove off to the other car park and everyone settled down at their pegs, Dingit started to build a small island in the middle with his “Spod Rod” taking pre baiting to a new level (and the water). And surprise, surprise we started at 10am, within minutes Nigee struck hard into a good Carp which was soon netted and successfully transferred to his keepnet.

The Wall fishing next to Shane Bulti spent 15-20 minutes talking to Shane and getting less response than usual but was sure he was not asleep as he was moving and catching fish, Shane later revealed he had been listing to music with his headphones on and had not heard a word he had said (Glynnie has been using that excuse for years), a few expletives where heard from our leader and he went back to talking to himself.

The weigh in was a prime example of why we all love to fish with the pot black, Aaron came 2nd but ended up 4th Roy never caught a fish and he came 3rd , Boyce came 3rd and 4th all in the same go, but as they say never a dull moment and full results are available on the attached sheet.

A special mention has to go to the man who has everything “and is going to wear it” Daddy Bulti, he could just be made out in the undergrowth under the beige hat in full camouflage gear, he later changed into several more of his birthday presents but the word from Shane is he still has several more to go.

Being a member of the Pot Black now carries a government health warning and all members are required to take extra precautions when venturing into their lofts, new member “Bear” was unable to fish due to falling from the loft “a large man is bear” and as we know Daddy Bulti had a mishap while entering the loft so please be careful. Remember things come in three’s so careful when getting those holiday suitcases out of the loft Wally.

My least favourite venue again lived up to its reputation as a horrible place to fish.

All members huddled into the caravan to escape the wind and heavy rain, many having sustenance in the form of bacon rolls, tea and coffee awaiting the arrival of our team leader, he dually arrived a couple of minutes late and set about the first “pairs” draw of the season.
Once the pairs had been drawn Mr Wall’s new assistant Banjo assisted in drawing the pegs on each of the two lakes (not the lakes stated on the match sheet, but this is the pot black ), the pegs had all been surveyed by our leader to ensure nobody had a peg facing into the wind (tell that one to Boycee).

Anyway pairs drawn you sorted out which lake you and your partner wished to fish, put on all your winter waterproofs and thermals and set off to your peg, ready to have an enjoyable 6 hours enjoying Isaac Newton’s favourite pastime “fishing”.

The New lake was favoured by “those in the know” well Wayne (two rods) Moore wanted that lake, but he was moved onto the substituted Reed Lake by our leader as his partner was my partner and as there were 8 pegs on Reed and 7 on New I had to be on Reed and as Paul Chilvers was my partner and also Wayne’s he had to be on the other lake, (I think that was how it all worked, but anyway Wayne was moved onto Reed).

Ardo was into fish on the first cast and it was a lovely Common of nearly 10 lbs, everyone thought a good day was going to be had by all on Reed lake (oh how wrong we all where), Steve Moyse fishing next to Trevor had a horrible day and took the early bath option and packed up early, Dad Roy fishing further round on Reed caught the same as Steve but stuck it out to the end. Both the Juniors had been placed on Reed and caught a few fish but again not their best day, Arron had a few fish but top bag for the lake went to Wayne (two rods) Moore.

Note :- feeder rod by knee just over the net.

Ardo got a few more fish for a very respectable bag and second spot on the lake, third went to yours truly which I think means I must have caught fish at “windyclay” but it was so cold I can barely remember.

Over the causeway on the big fish lake Banjo and Paul Chilvers where distance casting to the island and catching good quality fish around the 8 lbs mark at regular intervals, team leader Wall endeavoured to fish Paul Chilvers swim throughout the day and even managed to nick a few fish from it. Dingit had the corner swim and had his usual attack of amnesia and was unable to remember if he had caught any fish, it looked like he had a few at the weigh in.

Boyce had a lovely peg and was so pleased he decided to take his brolly down and just enjoy his day out in the fresh air, he put a very respectful bag on the scales and our team leader asked that he be given a special mention for sticking it out till the end.

Nigel had set up a small army surplice field shelter in the other corner and was really not seen all day, members were not concerned for his welfare as he could be heard “puttering” throughout the day and a good cloud of smoke regularly puffed out of his shelter. Mad Bruce had a good fish early on and a friendly angler weighed it for him so as he could put it straight back (he won’t be doing that again as he is sure that the scales where out by at least 3lbs if not more) but a lesson learned all the same.

Not loads of fish caught but top quality and a good size those that took the bait, top honours went to Paul Chilvers / Wayne Moore both putting in a good weight from there respected lakes, see the results table for a full rundown of how we all finished up.

I have contacted the BBC weather forecast office and as far as they can say the forecast for Sunday 29th August is high winds gusting to force 8 with heavy rain possibly turning to snow, so we can all guess where we are down to fish on that day (just hope for a peg out of the wind !!!).

It was “The first match of the season”, the long winter break is over, finally Wally and Nigel’s practise sessions and nights in watching all the fishing DVD’S known to man can be put into practise.

Some things never change our leader arrived at the venue on time for once but minus a pen (useful when you need to write things down) but set about the draw in his normal manner 15 is between that bush and the point, 5 is 5 but 16 will be between 4 and the bridge, but we must all be getting used to him as very little argument was heard and everyone was soon settling down on a peg of one sort or another.

Trevor Ardo and Mr Roberts (mad Bruce) where on the fancied pegs the other side of the bridge and straight away where into fish, with Steve Moyse and Aaron on the nearside of the bridge, the day had all the makings of a good start to the season.

Big Paul Chilvers fishing opposite the reeds was taking a good few fish and it was later revealed that the reeds have now been removed and it was possible to fish to the island making it a much more enjoyable peg to fish from.

The back straight had all the “hot shots” with Wayne the “Don” Moore as usual producing fish from places no other angler would catch them, young Lewis observing how it should be done Roy “memory man” Moyse forgot his chair again but was spared a day of standing by yours truly who lent him a chair for the day. Shane went through two tubes of sun cream just on his head, Banjo had borrowed a medium feeder from Mark Colman and set about extending the island, Dingit and son were either side of the shed and both had a good few fish with young Kieran very very nearly showing his Dad how it is done (it will be one match soon).

Nigel drew peg 1 and proceeded to set up a new record in moaning about everything, wrong peg, to cold, to sunny, next to Wally you name it he moaned about it, our team leader drew the envitable peg between Nigel and myself so was going to get a good bit of P-ss taking. Ten minutes into the match he decided to have a coffee to help calm the effects of the night before’s drinking, only to discover his flask and sarnies had been left in the drive !!, this was apparently Lewis’s fault, quite how we have no idea but if Wally says its Lewis’s fault... it must be.

The sun shone the wind was a bit keen / bloody freezing if you where on peg 1, but it did not rain, feeders and floats went up trees, over the island and sometimes even where they were meant to go, some fish where hooked and got away, others where landed. Everyone got their nets in the water and most people had more than a few fish (OK I only got 1 but there is only one way to go from here) the fish were not as co-operative as they usually are at Burgh Aphton but the better anglers shone through (see results sheet for weights etc).

Next match will hopefully see a full turn out with Daddy Bulti over the Viagra required for the wedding anniversary and Boyce and new man Bear all on the lake, good to see everyone again and in a strange sort of way nice to know that however many hints you drop and however much you try to help some people (Wally) are beyond help and will never change.

AWAY TRIP 2/3 JULY 2010

What a great response to the weekend away. I left the meeting with the expectation of about 8 of us but it's now more like WHO isn't going? After a lot of ringing around to various Premier Inns I finally found one that can accommodate our needs but its a little further away.(5 1/2 miles) It seems that these Hotels don't hold lots of TWIN rooms and I didn't like the thought of smelly hairy arsed fisherman sharing a double bed after a session on real ales?
The mob who committed and have their room booked are:-
1) Wally, 2) Skipper, 3) Paul Chilvers, 4) Banjo, 5) Steve Moyse, 6) Roy Moyse, 7) Bulti, 8) Shane, 9) Dingit, 10) Arran, 11) Bruce, 12) Bear, 14) Max Wall, 14) Birdy, 15) Bob Morris (room by himself). These rooms are booked ( 7 twins and 1 double) and to get the cheap rate they will have to be paid for. It works out under £35 per person for two nights.
I also tried to provisionary book some more rooms to cancel at a later date but as I booked so many at one go it pushed the rates up for all the rest of the rooms at that time! So the plan is to wait a little while and see if the prices drop in the future and also see if anyone drop out as there are a few others thinking about coming anyway! Namely :- Boycey, Louis and Keville Chilvers.
So the 8 became 15 and maybe ultimately turn out to be 18!!!!!!!!
Its looks like it's going to be a great weekend away.
I' m already planning the competitions, etc, etc and this maybe be the only opportunity to all get together socially and have a good laugh!

MID-SUMMER WEEKEND AWAY

As discussed at the AGM (this is new for you people with BAD colds and working away) we are trying to get a weekend away doing some serious drinking, sorry, I mean FISHING! The venue is Makin Fisheries in the Midlands. The idea is :- Leave early Friday 2nd July to arrive about lunchtime to fish Lake 4 in the afternoon. This lake is used a lot for matches and is good for pool/ method feeding and is predominately carp ( a lot, but not massive fish). Saturday, we will fish the Crater. A small lake full of carp , skimmers, silverfish and the odd barbel. We finish off fishing Sunday morning on one of the pleasure lakes before returning home early afternoon, Knackered!
Bob Nudd from Yarmouth found accommodation at a Premier Inn (Hinckley) 3 miles from the lakes and got a deal of £37.50 per person for 2 nights (not flexible) or £41 if you want to cancel the booking nearer the time. (is that good or what!) He also will take his Van (the cleanest van on earth) with a trailer so we can load a lot of gear in it so we can take more passengers in the cars.
There was a few of us who said they would definitely be interested and as these rooms are on special offer we need to know pretty quick so we can book them!!!!

I will book for those who can commit NOW on SAT 20th March but if you do need more time I don't know if these rooms will be available or the same price but we cross that problem if and when?(Or I can just book £41 option if your unsure then it only costs £1 to cancel)

THE SEASON STARTS

I was in the newsagents last week paying about six weeks paper bill and what was staring back at me from the magazine rack .................THE BIGGEST PAIR OF **** ..... no, calm down, you bunch of pervs... of course it was this months edition of Coarse-Angling. So, £3.25p lighter and several hours of reading later the BUG had got to me again. That spurred me on to help little 'WEB footed' Louis out and go over to angling direct to order the pole section he decided to throw into Barford last season. Should I walk out or have a little wander round and see what new stock they have in? It wouldn't hurt would it! ......well it did, unless you think paying out £94 don't hurt! ( alright that don't include you Skip, waldorf, statler and all the other millionaires around!)

The A.G.M. (or the argumentative general meeting) will be held at the Club on WEDNESDAY 10 th. MARCH starting 8pm.(ISH) (not unless I change the date Bob Said!)

So make sure your here as Bob (Wayne ) Nudd has promised to make a rare appearance and presenting a slide show on all the trophies he won last year!!!

A group of the best piscatorial genius's gathered together to claim their prize money and awards in front of a large crowd of their enduring public!..........meanwhile, at exactly at the same time down at the Pot Black Club, 16 ragamuffin "dip your maggot in and hope" so-called 'anglers'' waited eagerly for their end of season pittance! And boy they won't disappointed!

Unfortunately, most of the women opted to stay in and watch X Factor, rather than witness the grumpy old fart from the Club relish his only chance of getting his own back after a season of countless ribbing!! With the size of some these "anglers" he's cutting to pieces with his vicious mickey-taking you would think he's got a lot of balls! Well! That's another story!!!

The bar was free, so the drinks were going down nicely and everyone was in a good mood! Not a handshake to be seen and kissing was kept to a minimum. Wally started proceedings with Yarmouths answer to Waldorf & Statler from the Muppet show (Bob & Bulti)

taking front seats and keeping the host well in punching distance! The Club is always warm so Bruce only put his light woollie hat on! The Skipp kept his intake at dinner time down to 12 Barcardi's and 3 pints so he was really up to getting some more down his neck! (Especially as Brenda had to stay in make some Yorkies and couldn't keep her eye on him!) Lorraine gave 'Yarco' Bob a quick smack for putting his feet on the table and the presentation started! The Wall started with reminding the very forgetful and rather noisy gathering about some of the funnier things which happened through the year, taking every opportunity to ribb everyone about any unfortunate incident that happened but as usual got more stick back from his sharp tongued audience!

The prize money was shared out, with everyone present receiving some winnings and no one getting a huge amount! Great! After the break the annual trophies were handed out with more 'tongue pie' for every recipient.The Buffet was declared open and two had to go to the Paget after getting trampled in the rush.

Ardo had a surprise up his sleeve an handed everyone a cartoon picture to hang on the wall, which went down a storm after they all got over the initial shock of being ridiculed! (REF. THE CAST TOP RIGHT)

The Slush Fund behind the bar gradually got extinguished and no one fell over!

Some departed wearily home but a lot stayed well into the early hours and even watched the re-run of X Factor! Glynny now had a dead arm and a red mouth for drinking too much red wine and Skipp had started 'clapping'! All the signs of a great night!!!!!

'JUST A FRIENDLY'

The final curtain has been pulled over the 2009 Pot Black Fresh Water Fishing League, results have been confirmed at the last points match fished at “Windyclay”, the Bergh Apton outing was “just a friendly”.

So the scene was set, all members had arrived by the required 8.45 am draw time (someone forgot to tell the Wall) so the draw was a bit late but the usual Pot Black format was ignored and our leader picked out who was drawing in which order based on past performance !!.

The least favoured pegs went to Wayne “the don” Moore (that will teach him to drive past our leader in his hour of need) and Steve ( I always get a shit peg here) Moyse, the three top pegs 3,4 and 5 went to Dingit, the Wall and new best mate and angling legend Nigel (I fancy my chances from this peg) Blowers.

From the whistle Banjo was into fish and the other members fishing to the island from the not too windy side of the lake started to pick up the odd fish, “The Wall” fishing from the most favoured peg next to the bridge went on the pole while Dingit and Nigee (I Fancy my chances from this peg) went on the feeder.

The many hours of secret practising put in by our leader and Nigee ( I fancy my chances from this peg) at the venue started to show as slowly but surely the Wall started to catch fish “ up in the water” Dingit fishing next door kept fishing the feeder to the island but was only getting one fish to every two of the Wall’s.

Daddy Bulti the soon to be crowned club champion fishing from the rather drafty peg 1 was kept entertained by Wayne “the don” Moore fishing opposite, who had what only can be described as “a mare of a day” including missing the net Nigee (I fancy my chances from this peg) style with one of the fish he managed to catch, Roy fishing from a equally cold peg 2 remained under his brolly most of the day only venturing out to add encouragement to Wayne in his hour (well 6 hours actually) of need.

King of the feeder fishing Bruce “Mad Dog” (its Roberts by the way, his surname) tried to fish the same swim as Nigee (I fancy my chances from this peg) but this was difficult as Lewis was also alternating between Nigee’s (I fancy my chances from this peg) swim and an aerial assault on the tree.

The last match produced one of the most entertaining sights of the season as Steve Moyse fishing to the Island from peg 13 cast over the tree and did not notice, the fish took the bait Steve struck and a nice small carp of about 1lb was hoisted skywards up the tree, then lowered and raised several more times as Steve tried to retrieve both his gear and the fish. Aaron and Kieran caught a few fish but spent more time throwing ground bait balls at each other and aiming at Steve’s pellet waggler with their feeders than actually fishing.

Knockout Supremo Paul Chilvers was suffering with a bad hangover due to celebrating his BIG 5 - 0 BIRTHDAY the night before but he and Bob Morris spent most of the match feeding one of the “holes” to no avail, but that much feed went in it was only 2 inches (that’s about 50mm to the younger members) deep at the end of the match. Boycee fishing on the Wally “peg by the bush over there” enjoyed the day fishing off Bruce’s box, and was kept well informed of how the fishing was going and tactics to use by big Paul C.

But really the rest of the Blog must be dedicated to the first member of the Pot Black Fresh Water Fishing Club to weigh in the magical 100lb + match weight, we have all tried, several have come close, one or two have come extremely close, but up until Sunday 13th September 2009 nobody had actually managed to break the 100lb barrier.

Our team leader prepares to lift the first net (will it be enough).

The fast response team where brought out to get the weigh in under way, most members where still packing up when Dingit and Bulti weighed in the first pegs then buggered off with food sighted as the main reason for departing, Dingit went that quick he forgot his son and heir and young Kieran was forced to thumb a lift with Nigee (I fancy my chances from that peg) Blowers. But as the scales went round the lake all eyes and the talk was all about the one man with two nets in the water and his “guestimate” of about 80lbs of fish in the nets.

Dingit was in the lead at 5olbs + and several other good weights and lots of interest as our leader had decreed that he was paying down to 6th place in the pools but with the two hot pegs 4 and 5 still to come it was still a “will it be over the 100lbs” question that was on everyone’s lips. Finally peg Five lifted his net from the peg he really fancied and we all realised that the definition of true friendship was giving up your chance of victory and allowing the fish to move out of your swim and into the person who’s friendship and praise you have converted for over 27 years swim next door. Despite Nigee “Fancying his chances from peg 5” he had given up any chance of further glory to ensure his “mate” Mr Michael Wall had the best possible chance of a record catch.

The first net from “The Wall” was put to the scales and this was his “second net” it sent the scales round to 48lbs 12ozs, will his first net have the required 52lbs + to take him over the magic ton mark, the fish where returned and the second net lifted to the scales, round they went to register 52lbs 12ozs, its enough total weight 101lbs 8ozs, it’s there the first in the club to hit the 100lbs mark.
In the words of our Nigee “his little face was a picture” The Wall looked like all his Christmas’s had come at once, it was one dark night many, many moon’s ago he last looked that happy under the south pier and that was another 1st, anyway back to the fishing.

Hopefully many more will follow in the footsteps of our leader but as we will all vouch for, it is always the first one that is remembered and that honour has rightly been achieved by our leader and club Capitarno Mr Michael Wall with a total match weight of 101lbs 8ozs, well done Michael.

Glynnie was phoned with the good news and also told that her and Max would be allowed into the lounge that night as he would be in a better mood than usual, Nigee has gone right to the top and will be Wallys newest and bestess mate for ever and ever. The new car is going to be cleaned at least every other year, if a warning light shows on the dash he will get it looked at within a week but nothing really matters for a least a couple of weeks as “Wally caught over 100 lbs in the last match” is guaranteed to be top of the bar topics for a good while yet.

Despite previous photos being sent into cyber space we have every confidence that the “web master” will manage to display the following of our leader achieving the yet to be surpassed pinnacle of his match fishing career.

Well done again Michael (and by the way if you did not know but Nigel really fancied his chances on peg 5), the end of season bash is to be on Saturday 31st October at the club be there by 8pm or Dingit will have drunk all the bar money, Banjo cannot make it so it’s pretty safe that we will not have to endure Oulton Broad although fixtures will be sorted out later.

Thank you to everyone for the company, camaraderie and friendship it is a pleasure to be a member of the club, long may it continue, till the next season.

WINDERCLAY- THE LAST LEAGUE MATCH

As "tales of the other bank" has at last been identified by his absence at his least favourite venue of Hinderclay! Bob "razor-tongue" Morris welched out of fishing the last match because of nightmares of smashing his head on the caravan door (the door got all the sympathy,
sitting on his rather expensive sunglasses and lastly has never caught a decent fish there!( The only one he said he did catch somehow mysteriously disappeared out of his keepnet?)(We all believe your Bob).......
So the write-up has come back into my lap so bear with me! Firstly, there's Bulti, who was three points in the lead to win the league and could only be caught if I won the day and bulti blanked. And guess what, the guy who absolutely HATES float fishing got his "virginal" rod out baited with a single maggot on a 20 hook and shouted deliriously when he landed a fish even ARDO would be embarrassed about! He then turned his radio up as loud as it would go so the guy in the next swim (me) had NO chance of catching anything!! Seriously, well done Bulti its great to see another name on the winners trophy, its what our league is about!
Also, the final of the knockout was on the agenda, this one between Mad Bruce and anorexic Paul Chilvers.They also were drawn next to each other but this time on a more favourable part of the lake. The word from the locals outside the caravan was to pole-it 9 metres out on paste. This didn't prove fruitful on the day when Paul caught all his fish in feeder near the island and more astonishingly Bruce couldn't get into them. Paul therefore bagged the K/out Cup and also won the day with Dingit coming second and golden peg Steve Moyse coming third. The curse of the golden peg is over for another year and not before time as Stevie will verify! The first incident to circulate around the lake was that Steve had two fish in the net (it was verified BoB) and suddenly the carp of about 4lb jumping clean out sending steve stumbling off his box! Then later I looked up to see steve thrashing all the reads with his feeder rod, he was giving them a right pummelling! Bloody Hilarious! Then Steve went for a long wonder around to see his dad.......
Talking about Daddy Moyse, after fishing a good few matches without catching anything much the best part of my day was seeing him FINALLY getting a nice carp on the bank then rubbing it around in the muck at the weigh-in to get as much weight on the scales as possible.
To summarise, the lake generator was unusually quiet, Louis fluked one and beat me for the second week running, Kierron was pegged in the fish desert and Arron talked about "fizzing" for 5 hours then packed up................And lastly for all those who haven't heard my car(sob,sob) blew up on the Diss roundabout and after filling up the radiator with ditch water, we found out it had passed away and gone to that big scrapyard in the sky! We arrived home with the help "of a very nice man" in the cab of an RAC truck at the cost of £130 at about 9pm with my Yorkshires well and truly burnt to a cinder! I've forgot one person who fished that Sunday, our very own resident professional Wayne Moore who was another one who blanked on the day but also DROVE STRAIGHT PASS ME WHEN I WAS BROKE DOWN because he thought I had stopped for a phone call. I would have thought the BONNET being up and more steam coming from the front of my car than coming out of Stevie Moyse's ears might have given it away!!!!!!
Now it's for our seasons very last match and its Sunday end of the season k/out at Berghampton fishing 10am to 4pm meeting at the lake at 8.45am. So until then......

The last time most members tried to catch a Goldfish it was with a bamboo stick and a hook and involved a small plastic duck at the fair, but variety is the spice of life as they say so the match was looked forward to with intrepid imagination.

The draw was a unique affair in Pot Black history as the peg you drew was the peg you fished off, this caused some confusion but most members soon settled into their allotted swims, the water was a murky looking mixture but fish could be seen topping out all over the lake, so anticipation was riding high with most members!

Information received earlier confirmed that 'The Wall' and new apprentice improver and caddy Louis had been practicing at the venue earlier during the week and our leader was confident of removing Big Paul Chilvers from the knockout. They had been drawn next to each other so a nice friendly match with plenty of banter was on the cards, the other remaining two in the knockout Bob Morris and 'Mad Bruce' where drawn across the lake more or less opposite each other so again friendly rivalry was going to be evident.

From the whistle tatics where very different, ex-professional angler and all round expert on most things piscatorial 'Nigel Blowers' went straight on the feeder, Bruce followed Nigee's lead, most others went with a float fished bait some on the pole, others with the old fashioned rod and line.

Things got off to a slow start until Loius decided to fish rather to close to the island and managed to put his float into the trees opposite, much tugging and pulling but it would not come free, then our leader piped up 'do not break my pole Louis' so in valiant effort to save our leaders pole Louis had to adopt the Banjo method of pole retrieval and it was down to his skiddies and in for a dip for Louis.

Official club photographer Paul Chilvers was again on hand to catch the event for postrity, but this has not been added to the blog as the Pot Black Web Master (thanks for the sarcasm) is unable to download the photos at present and this has caused the Marsh Trail report and photos to be put into cyberspace hopefully to be retrieved and published at a later date.

The Wall / Chilvers conflict was neck and neck with both catching at a fair rate, Bob Morris was into a good number of fish but Mad Bruce using his delicate feeder tactics hap produced 3 nice fish of about 4lbs each by the half way stage.

Steve Moyse fishing in the corner peg was practicing his repertoire of well know swearing and cursing and even managed a few that Nigee had not heard, best to say he did not have the best of days and adopted the Ardo 'F**k' the fishing and pack up early technique. At the other end of the lake Moyse senior was also having a non productive day as well but proof that you mellow with the years as Roy carried on till the bitter end and weighed in his catch at the end.

At the weigh in Bruce was top dog and consequently demoted Bob Morris to the 'also ran' pile, Big Paul proved that the younger man had more staying power and sent 'The Wall' crashing out of the much sort after Knockout. So its Paul Chilvers versus Bruce (he must have a surname) but 'Mad Dog' will do for now in the Knockout. Club champion is now drawing close and its swimmer banjo v's The Enforcer Paul (Who's the Daddy) Bultitude, its nearly a two horse race but 3rd position is a up for grabs with The Wall, Aaron, young Louis and Big paul Chilvers all in the running then just a point back of them is the chasing pack including Nigee, Ardo, Bob Morris and young Keiron and his Dad.

So It's looking good for the run up to the end of season, who will win the Knockout? Who will be Supreme Champion? Will the match at Topcroft be oversubscribed and we can have the famous Pot Black 'I will fish the peg by the bush' well within 20ft extra peg put in.

Marsh Trail Sunday 2nd August 2009 1pm – 7pm.

It was doubles / trebles / knock out 87th round / totally confuse everyone, but at least Wally knows what is going on !!! (just as Mark C).

The draw was a leisurely affair conducted on the bench overlooking the lake in the sunshine, Big Bulti was late due to a close encounter with an “officer of the law” and his little radar gun (large portion of humble pie for about 15 minutes, but no points) 44mph in a 40 limit is nearly a hanging offence these days. Bob Morris would not fit under the “anti gypo” barrier so had to negotiate the brambles from the bypass and was also a little late on parade.

The lake was surveyed and give the old “Pot Black Treatment” leave out this one this one and that one, you have drawn 15 well that means you are fishing on 18, I have drawn 3 so is that 6 the question was asked ?, no that is 3 as you have drawn it, but everyone seemed to arrive at the correct peg.

Trevor Ardo drew the much favored by the locals swim under the trees, he had obviously borrowed Nigees generator as he could be heard putt putt puttering nearly all day until throwing back his fish and heading off for an early bath. As soon as the match was over the “locals jumped in Trevor’s swim and had landed a nice carp of about 3lbs before the weigh in was over.

The match started early (yes defiantly early) obviously our leader was ready on time for once, and Mr Michael Wall was quickly into fish landing 4 in the first half an hour of the match while everyone else just sat watching in total amazement. The three stooges fishing from the causeway pegs (Paul Chilvers, Daddy Bulti and the angling legend that is Nigel Blowers) where very keen to encourage our leader and issue helpful advise along the lines of “mind you do not lose that one” “make sure you do not miss the net” and many other helpful comments where directed to him.

With the sun on their backs the low numbered pegs where very pleasant to fish from although with a good breeze blowing the causeway pegs where donning overcoats and mentioning that it was rather cold in there swims, (such a shame). Two hours into the match and “The Wall” was still catching fish while most others were at best struggling, Bob Morris sneaked along and received some tips (and some secret bait) from the Wall only to return to his peg and catch two fish straight off, this was obviously not mentioned much by other club members.

Then it happened the Banjo fishing the corner peg was taken into the bushes by a good fish, the fish pulled, Banjo pulled back, with hindsight probably a little to hard because a cracking/splitting sound could be heard all round the lake and Banjos prize pole was now in two rather large pieces. A friendship born many years ago in the classroom at Junior school came into play as Banjo was quite upset and his lifelong friend and confidant Mr Chilvers issued reassuring words “get your swimming gear out Banjo”, that’s f—ked it, never mind I am sure you will be able to mend it. These reassuring words where all offered to console Banjo in his hour of need, he then spent the next 3 hours asking at 10 minute intervals “can you see my float” and “is my pole still floating”.

It has been brought to the attention of the writer from an undisclosed source (OK Paul Chilvers told me), that Banjo used to be known as Aqua Banj in his previous hobby of scuba diving and this would obviously come in handy in retrieving his precious pole sections from the murky depths of Marsh Trail Lakes.

Now as the match drew to an end the Wall was a definite winner Bob Morris using the tips and bait managed a second and Martin Dingit a third, but with it being Trebles it all changed and please refer to the table for final confirmed positions.

As the weigh in was getting under way Trevor was hurtling down the bypass towards Lowestoft the Banj stripped down to his skiddys for a spot of pole retrieval. In true Pot Black style it has also started a look-alike caption and photo, so Banjo is first,

Barford Match Lake Sunday 19th July.

Barford where there normal helpful and accommodating selves, reducing the number of pegs, dictating the match times and generally forgetting that we are the customers so only the first 14 names on the list where eligible to fish. Therefore the knockout etc has been put off till the next match when all members who are still in can fish.

This match report is a variation from the normal as we are going to concentrate and pay tribute to one of our club who has become a legend in his own life time, has devoted his entire life to fishing, and to try and give everyone an insight into just how much you need to put in to become a match winner.

This is a man we has had a prominent Doctor at the local Ministry of Agriculture Food and Fisheries developing a bait for him to use, then has been practicing on local waters fine tuning and developing the bait further. Even down to working out that it needs to be micro waved for a minute or two on full power to harden the outside and prevent smaller fish taking the bait.

He has had a trolley special adapted to carry his fine tuned and specialist angling equipment, but still makes 3 trips to the car to enable his vast array of tackle and bait to be transported to his peg, then forgets his cloth and has to borrow one from the peg next door.

With the match on Barford starting at Ten he had worked out that he need not start fishing until 11.30 otherwise he would catch to many fish and as he is maturing in age may be to tired to continue till the end of the match. This was proven when fishing at Topcroft on Thursday testing the “new bait” as he caught 2 to 3 times as many fish as anyone else fishing on the lake. He had worked out that the cooking time needed to be 67 seconds so as to harded the outer skin and prevent the smaller fish taking the bait, this enabled him to target fish in the 8 – 10 lbs bracket. Extra problems have been encountered in the “cooking” as our as yet unnamed anglers wife is not to keen on him using her micro wave for bait so this process has to be carried out when she is out of the house and he has to double quick time his window cleaning duties to enable the cooking to take place and the evidence cleared away before the wife returns.

As the Barford match progress the anglers on the other side of the lake from another club where amazed at our members reactions, several times the angler on the peg opposite was heard to say “you have got a bite mate” as our club member chose to ignore his rod tip swinging round nearly pulling from the rest knowing it was a inferior fish and maintaining his match plan to target the bigger fish.

As the match drew to a close he was quietly confident he had done enough, he had previously told his pairs partner Wayne “The Don” Moore to ease back when he had got over 10lbs as to not make it to embarrassing for the rest of the club members. His master plan nearly backfired when in trying to raise his position within the exclusive “Wallys Mates Club” he gave or team leader some of the aforementioned bait, but thankfully not to much.

Who is this man I hear you cry, I did not relies we had such a dedicated angler in our mist is another cry we can here, it is the one and only our own Nigeee.

The master plan and all the bait and tackle development finally paid of with a individual match winning total of 33lbs 4ozs Nigee carried his partner 12lbs 4ozs Wayne Moore to victory in the pairs with 45lbs 8ozs, working out his fish ratio to near perfection beating team leader Wall 22lbs 8ozs and Paul Chilvers 19lbs 8ozs combined weight 42lbs into second place.

It is a privilege to few of us realize to fish along side someone who has dedicated his life to the pursuit of fish and who we are all to often to keen to take the p_ss out of the old boy, it is a an honour for us all and we could all learn so much from the master.

11th July Everitts Park

It was a cold wet winters evening when we all sat in the Pot Black and Banjo piped up “fish Everitts park end of July, loads of bream and roach”, marvelous fishing off the concrete said Mark Coleman, so the date was set a Saturday night rendezvous at 6pm fish 7.30pm – 1.30am.

Come the day of reckoning Banjo decided a good beer up at a wedding was a far better proposition and Mark Coleman “got a better offer”, our team leader was off to warmer climates and Nigel was over the water subsidizing his pension with a little contraband, so the numbers where going to be on the low side but 6 hardy souls and the two juniors turned up.

In typical Pot Black style Trevor and Daddy Bulti took over the draw (no draw required), due to the forecasted inclement weather the times where rearranged now fishing a much more sensible 7pm till midnight, walk off go where you feel like, all in a line together.

Local boy Dingit had been practicing at the venue several nights during the week and was favorite, with Paul Chilvers being given a heavy coaching session by the venue proposer the very absent Banjo, plus the very local young Lewis could be a dark horse a match was defiantly on.

At the off Paul and Lewis went on the pole and roach started to show in good numbers, the Paul Chilvers barmy army fan club turned up on mass (9 spectators at one point) and this slowed him down as there was not room on his peg for them all to stand. Aaron arrived with what everyone thought was a very large tub of ground bait, but this later turned out to be the family Waters BBQ and evening snack.

As daylight turned to twilight Paul Chilvers was in front but then he lost a hook and the poor eyesight and the bad light cost him valuable time, as young Lewis crept into the lead, then it started Big Daddy Bulti who was having a family reunion on the end of the line, 3 children, one dog and the wife (I know there was an opportunity there but even I am not that brave).Landed the first bream of the night, only a small skimmer but still equal to 3 roach, then another then another, then Bob Morris on the next peg hooked a nice bream about 1 pound only to use the Blowers “catch and release method” and throw it straight back into the broad. Daddy Bulti was now well into the fish and looking like he was going to be unstoppable.

Further down the line Ardo was being pestered by birds (not the first time this has happen to him in Everitts park I am reliably informed) but these where the feathered variety and they really took a liking to him. Bob Morris demonstrated how to encourage then to go away by breaking your landing net on them but nobody else was keen to try this method, and the Dingit family BBQ was in full swing.

As midnight beckoned Paul Chilvers landed a good bream of about 3 pounds and brought him back into the running, as the evening turned to rain the weigh in was taking place with Daddy Bulti putting over 10 lbs of fish onto the scales for top bag, Paul Chilvers was second and young Lewis a very admirable third putting the rest of the “grown ups” to shame.

As everyone made a dash for the cars and home Lewis settled down to fish through the night and into the daylight hours ( oh to be young youthful and foolish). A good match enjoyed by all but if Banjo puts it forward for next season it is compulsory he has to fish it !!.

Holly Farm Sunday 28th June 2009 fish 1pm – 7pm

A Pot Black first, we fished on the day at the venue and at the time on the sheet! The sun came out it was not blowing a gale it did not rain, well things can only go one way from here.

Half of the members met at the aptly named “Wanger & Snatch” Café in Gt Yarmouth before the match and dined on a variety of meals ranging between the “Two of everything breakfast” to just a cup of tea, our erstwhile leader announced that we were “to do the draw for the knockout”. Nigel “KP” Blowers officiated and drew the pairs before departing for the venue.

Everyone arrived at the same time (having all left together) except our leader who as usual used a different route to everyone else and arrived 5 minutes later, a thorough inspection of the venue was executed and a decision made to ignore the waters peg numbering and go by the “Pot Black Method” THUS ENSURING TOTAL CONFUSION.
“Number one is that one up there in the corner was the cry, that means “that one is number ten” said daddy Bulti, “are you sure” said our leader “because if you are wrong it will put the whole thing out”. In a scene similar to a F1 Grand prix start everyone set off to there allotted pegs, then the inevitable “your on peg 7 and I am on 7” “no this is 8”, much debate quite a lot of heated discussion followed by one large dummy thrown very hard out of a big pram.

In a rare moment of all seriousness our leader does a marvelous job sorting everything out to enable us all to have some really lovely days out, and this is usually a thankless task. He does it all for nothing it is not a paid position or eligible for expenses and members making uncalled for comments and generally hassling him can only push him closer to the edge, try thanking the old boy now and again and just keep the moans to yourselves.

Anyway, after the F1 start we then had the “Come Dancing” reshuffle as it was decided that Bulti had got it wrong and 10 was 11 and so on, all move round one but the start time was still on for a 1pm start.

The island swims where the fancied pegs and true to form started to produce fish early on, Aaron was looking confident and even offered Paul Chilvers advise on how to cup in feed at 13 meters “you need to be good like me” was the answer to Paul’s question. Mind you having put in his second net after 3 hours it was all looking like the “ego” was heading for a podium finish, he obviously borrowed a net from Bob Morris as at the weigh in his 34lbs 8ozs in the two nets combined was not even enough to put him in the points, and he received just two along with the rest of the also rans.

Nigel “KP” Blowers was drawn as the Golden Peg and obviously the proper start time and match duration totally confused him as he was noticeably quiet all day, word on the lake was he was catching fish but Ardo in the corner was beating him hands down so the money was safe.

The weigh in commenced at peg 1, after a short delay while we found the weighing in sling, and straight off the weights where good Ardo 44 lbs then Nigel 54 lbs was the Golden peg going to go, we were now reliant on “The Ego” to knock Nigel off the top spot. But Mad Bruce put 60 lbs on the scales and Nigel was back to just his pension to sustain him. Further round the weigh in went with nothing spectacular a few decent weights but then the “two of everything breakfast muncher” Shane pulled the scales down to a very respectable 74 lbs and took top spot and the money.

The first round of casualties have fallen and the 8 through to the next round of the knock out are Ardo, Bruce, Nigel, Banjo, Dingit, Mick Wall and Bob Morris.

A word of advise was offered to Bob Morris when packing up by Dingit “mind you don’t send your pole section into the lake doing like that” right-you-are said Bob, moments later a gentle splash followed by f___ it could be heard from Bobs peg, “I will go in and get it” said Mad Bruce, are you sure said Bob yeah it aint deep said Bruce taking off his boots and socks. Moments later the pole section was on the bank, Bob was smiling again and Bruce looked like his old incontinent problem was back.

When you all left after the weigh-in (all alone & last to pack-up again) on Sunday evening at Holly Farm , I spoke to the owner about putting some peg numbers on each swim. He said although there is a diagram in the office(shed) window he understood how this could be overlooked.(especially if the club has got a "numbnut" running it!) Anyway, we chewed the fat for some time and joked was there any other ways we could get anglers to there various pegs and he said with a glint in his eye that he had a dog that could remember every scent of anyone it came in contact with. I said in the nicest sort of way that this was a load of old B******t! (You know how diplomatic I can be!) and sensed there was some money to be had here! After lots more banter we decided on a "Bluey" as the bet and he went back into the house to get his MUT!
Was I P***ed off when he brought back a bloody Bloodhound! What a cunning sod I thought and this now looked like I'm going to part with some of my hard earned income!!! Then a brain wave hit me.... ..... Dingit had downed 12 pints of Newky-Brown on Sat-night and was dispensing gas like no-tomorrow throughout the morning until he inadvertently followed through half the match! He dissappeared into the bushes, to return a few minutes later a lot more happy and alot less STICKY!
Feeling quietly confident, I dived into the undergrowth retrieved the "SAID" item and told the owner to get the dog to show me Martin's swim!!!!

Barford Railway Lake 10.00am – 3.00pm.

Match Three and as often is the case times change !!.

Beautiful sunny day no rain no howling gale can it really be the Pot Black fishing match.

Our leader had half of Tizer to much on Saturday night and slept through his alarm !! new best buddy and back in favor Wayne Moore (Chillo was away and could not fish) called to collect him and he was still asleep, still no problem just change the time of the match to 10.30 – 3.30. Nigee’s generator was put put putting and Brenda was called to rearrange the dinner again when our leader decided that he could be ready by 10.15. Another phone call to Brenda and Nigee’s dinner was rescheduled but the put put putting continued until at least midday.

Big Bulti decided he was short of a waggler float so snapped the end off his ledger rod to make one before the start of the match, drastic but when you are blessed with the amount of tackle the bulti’s have you would not miss one more ledger rod. This obviously proved the right formula as he produced the 2nd heaviest bag, only to be beaten by Wayne Moore, WHO HAS SHOT RIGHT UP THE WALLS list and is neck and neck with Chillo to be Wallys next pairs partner.

Bruce was third beating Bob Morris by 8 ozs which Bob easily lost in the fish that came off at the net causing the feeder to fly out and nearly decapitated Shane Bulti in the process.

Nigel lost 26 hooks, 4 feeders and 15 yards of line (and treated everyone within ear shot to language only an ex trawler skipper could understand) on the tree and bank opposite that somebody kept moving every time he cast, but he did at least catch one fish and that made it into the net which is good for Nigel.

Mark Colman persevered fishing “up in the water” and finally managed a carp, full marks to stick at it when everyone else is catching on the feeder. Young Kieran has now taken to crawling down the net at the weigh in and retrieving his fish individually from the bottom of the net. Ryan has asked for a full race harness and a crash hat for his birthday as the rides home with Nigee after the matches are getting scarier. Banjo turned up without his trailer, he flatly denied reports that the antiques road show had made him an offer, it is just not required as Paul Chilvers had run out of urine to stand in so was not fishing.

Then after the weigh in another Pot Black Classic, “today’s match was the first round of the knockout” was announced, “but not to worry I forgot to draw it out” so Wayne’s one of my biggest threats woops sorry “not going to be here so he is knocked out” and we will sort the rest out later. So everybody is through to the next round, which you never know might even be drawn and you will know who you are fishing against.

Next match is Cinnamon Lake at Tasburgh on 14th June it is down as 10am – 3pm its even money on 10am -4pm, but our leader has promised faithfully to put any alterations on the web and will also inform Brenda personally so as Nigees dinner will be ok, hopefully the weather will hold and as we will be fishing “round the lake” more of that famous Pot Black Camaraderie (p-ss tacking) will be evident.

Barford Willow lake. Aka Goblers Gulch

It was Edward Bewer-Lytton who said “the pen is mightier than the sword” and it appears he was right, our Team leader Birthday boy Wall drew Nigel (100/1 if I had taken the bet) and Kieran for his team of 3. To try and remove the accusations of “draw fixing” the new golden boy Chillo was drawn with Roy (lightning) Moyse and the club sleeper Shane Bultitude. This proved to be the winning trio with Shane staying awake all match and finished with top bag overall, helped by the fact that every time he looked like he was going to sleep someone catapulted boillies at him.

Wayne Moore has slipped so far down the Walls favor list as to not be on it (it was only one marble fire place and we are sure you wont notice the join), Wayne not only drew the corner peg (no surprise there then) but was given an angling lesson buy the clubs one and only ex processional fisherman Nigel (got to go Brenda’s got the dinner on) Blowers, who produced fish when Wayne kept his net dry again.

Several members have peculiar rituals and superstitions they follow before a match but Paul Chilvers standing in urine in the morning prior to the match is the strangest I have heard for a long time, but as he and his fellow trio members Bruce and Trevor where 2nd it might be something other members wish to take up !!. Mind you as a red golf with rickety old trailer reversed out of a slip road and back onto the roundabout for the A47 after the match with traffic swerving to avoid the vehicle and trailer he may not make it to many more matches unless he changes his chauffer.

Bob Morris completed his 3rd 5 hour session on Willow and managed to keep his unbroken record, its now 15 hours of intense concentration with several hours preparation without a single fish, he thinks he had a bite the time before last but cannot quite remember. But Bob Morris was helped into third position in the results by his two team members Boycee and Steve Moyse who caught two fish the first one landed in just over half and hour (that’s fast for Steve) the second one was a good 45 – 50 minute epic battle until the poor fish was so knackered it just gave up, Wally worked out if Steve was to beat the lake record he would need to be fishing for 3 days 7 hours and 10 minutes without a break to allow enough time to play all the fish.

Next match is the other side of the causeway you are not supposed to drive along, you know the one Wally had his car parked on for the entire match Barford Railway Lake, it is supposed to be 10 -3 but remember that old advert watch out watch out Wally’s about, things may change.

Match two Windyclay lakes

Doubles (or another way for Wally to confuse us all).

Wayne Moore is now undergoing a comprehensive training regime to improve his catch rate as reality hit home when he was no longer drawn with Wally in the pairs, (our erstwhile leader and draw master plucked the new leader and Diawa international Chillo as his partner ( you could not write it in a book). Wayne then went on to confirm Wallys thoughts and failed to way in. So it looks like it will be Wally and Chillo in all future pairs draws, in the triples its even money on Wally / Wayne / Chillo or Dingit may substitute Wayne if Wally feels he is still not producing, Nigel is 100/1 outsider for Wallys triples team with the rest of us 20/1. Although after reading this we may be thrown a decoy early on and Wally will put himself with Nigel and one of the youngsters if he feels we may be scrutinizing the draw to much.

The draw for pegs was another Pot Black classic with Wally on the much favored peg 2 and his new partner and best buddy Chillo on the hot peg on New lake Nigel and his partner both on Spring lake, and Bob Morris celebrating a peg “out of the wind” never mind if it will fish.

Four hours into the match and Chillo’s / Wallys catch rate was improving but with the talk on the bank of several big fish, they thought they would need another hour to clench the title. So an executive decision was taken by our leader to extend the match by another hour, thus ensuring victory was in the net.

Brenda Blowers (Mrs Nigee) has been asked if dinner can be half an hour later as young Ryan would like to see a way in, but this idea failed due to the match extension and the poor lad was subjected to another 100 mph dash home so as Nigels yorki puds did not burn in the oven !!.

The Bulti,s put the catering to the test and Stuart was heard to mutter the words “we are going to need a bigger pan”, Mark Colman brought along his son to help carry his “big feeders” and the ground bait, and to show the lad how to “match fish”, after 5 hours and no fish the poor lad is still waiting !!.

Next match will be on Willow at Barford “Teams of Three” or another way to confuse us all. Also the questions will be answered Wallys team ?, will Ryan get to see a way in ?, Will the Bultis get lost ?, will Bob Morris get a peg facing the wind ?, will Wayne Moore pull out all the stops to win back Wallys favor, will more than 5 people way in ? till then.

Hell, are we unlucky or not! After a week of sunshine and warm temperatures, Sunday come and that FREEZING cold northerly wind came it!! It could be the POT BLACK CURSE because if you remember last season, how many Sundays were crap also!
Anyway it was SCRATCH-about time again and the prospect of a lot of people Blanking as well! As we were split on two lakes most people didn't know how there partners were doing till the weigh in. On New Lake it became obvious the carp were only in certain pegs but it was also obvious the fish were bigger this year as the talk was HOW MANY was lost! Chillo got two fish for 22 lb 4 oz and was smashed about ten times( .12 line ain't quite heavy enough, eh!) Boycie back from his fishing tuition holiday with Bob Nudd came second with 10lb 9 oz pipping Dingit who...... wait for it..... missed his keep net with a fish estimated at least 60 lb, and bulti was committing suicide after having six hours of listening to hundreds of fish spawning under the trees in touching distance!

On Spring Lake Wally's N2 peg was a gift from heaven, fish everywhere, even bare hooks were getting bites, I mean how did he only land 15 lb! Good job he's a crap fisherman! Mad Bruce got the biggest fish of the season so far a 13 lb 4oz slink and that shy Yarco Millionare Bob Morris weighed in 7lb without a hole in his net! All the youngsters blanked including the skipper and Shane said that's the best sleep he's had for weeks! The reigning champion Wayne Moore chucked his imaginary fish back before the weigh in and got only 1 point (plenty good enough) and I thought someone Had left a generator running in the corner but it was only Nigel puttering away!

As it was the doubles points went to chillo and rip van winkle 5pts, best peg on the lake wally/ stevie moyse 4 pts and in 3rd place by just, I say just one once, Boycie /bob morris 3pts.

Next match is at Willow Lake Barford on the 17th May and is a 5 hour match.(Barford won't allow 6 hours) but where we can have 6 hours we will!!!!

Weybread Fisheries Sunday 19th. April

18 Anglers turned up at a cold and blustery Weybread Fisheries (after bulti & Co got lost on the way, no change there then!). With the prospect of a hard day ahead of us everyone was hoping for a peg out of the wind and in the sun. Bob Morris drew the coldest peg and then busted his pole and blamed Banjo just to take the emphasis off himself!. Mark Coleman couldn't use his dustbin feeder as there was a 2 Kilo groundbait restriction and it would only half fill it! Young Loius, Dingit and Kierron got the pucker pegs on the island and were soon sitting in shirtsleeves while the rest of us were togged up like a December day on Pakefield Beach. Wayne (the Don) Moore got shown up by the Dawai Professional Chillo who was on the next peg and won the day with 13 lb of silver fish. Second was the club maggot(man) Ardo who was the only one to hook a carp and eventually lost it and his rig when it pinged off and into the trees.(Tough shit) Third was (please sit down ) Bulti senior on the feeder who was so pleased he beat dingit (4th.)that he said he's going to buy me a pint if he ever comes down the club!! Everyone caught something but the cold weather done us, so we are looking forward to the next match, doubles,l at Hinderclay!

As promised, the result of PB's first internet vote has come to an end and bang on time (must be a first) the result is as follows;- .........drum roll......... big gap of silence (like they do on the telly)............................in second place with 3 votes was ...................VOTE 1 (RULE STAY AS THEY WERE) (3 VOTES.)....................in first place was ...........***** can be used, but all the top 18 inches of water is banned!!!!!!!! (11 VOTES). So there we are........ what was all that rubbish at the meeting, was it just a waste of time and at last has common sense prevailed! Or will the rule be be toast by next year! So come'on you lot use your loaf and don't break the rules because WE will ban you for three matches (this rule will come more apparent later) and then you won't win the DOUGH! Do you know I've started to feel quite sick writing this rubbish but anyway here are all the Waters Rules and if you are in any DOUBT ask me before you start!

CLUB RULES 2009

1) Everyone fishing SUNDAYS needs to be a current member of the Pot Black Club.
2) Fixture sheets will be on the notice board 14 days before date.
3) £6.00 will be given to reception when name goes down (£5 match fee + £1 golden peg)
4) NO FLOATING BAITS
5) No baits allowed in the zone 18 inches below the surface or 12 inches below the bottom of your float
6) 70% of match fees to be paid out to winners of that day and the rest will go towards trophies and end of season Piss-Up
7) Pre-baiting of swims will be allowed 10 minutes before the start of match
8) THESE RULES TAKE PREFERENCE AT ALL TIMES BUT INDIVIDUAL WATER RULES WILL ALSO APPLY (Please make sure you read them)
9) Anyone caught breaking rules will be eliminated for 3 matches!(new rule) proposed by Wayne Moore.( you know who that is,the one who fishes 10 minutes after the whistle)
10) Barbless hooks only

I have phoned all the waters up which we are fishing and had a long conversation about what is on their boards and WHAT they will allow for US!!! So take this as gospel as they have agreed things, which other clubs might not GET, and if there are any queries I’ll take the flack! If method feeders are not mentioned they are ALLOWED! (PLEASE make sure the hook length is of less strenght than the mainline! )

Hello fellow ***** lovers. After our very INTERESTING meeting last Thursday I just had to bung a few more ideas into the mixer! The turnout was great, the enthusiasm was encouraging, pity it got a bit strained towards the end. I suppose It was my fault.......as I AM suppose to be in charge of the club and the club DOES sell ALCOHOL!!

It's really weird how a few bevies make a normal healthy brain shrink to the size of a sprout! I didn't realise that ***** was such a provocative word. Now if you want to get a person touchy you can call him a Tw*t, but I think that word is quite endearing and not insulting at all. Now the F. word, that can get a few heckles raised! But If someone really wants to go all the way and fisticuffs are on the agenda, its got to be the dreaded C. word, it always works! That is definately SO last year, for the new word on the block, the word to set off World War III is now ***** ! It's so bad I dare not even put it in print as my internet connection will probably die and I will become a statistic on a secret data base for grossly inflammatory and extremely provocative remarks!!

Funny thing is, I was ready to vote ***** in, but once it got mentioned once or twice I could see people I've known for years, changing into rabid dogs. If its got that effect on quite (I Said Quite) sensible people think what we could do to highly volatile races! Drop a few plane loads full of paper with the ***** word on Afghanistan, Iran & N Korea, that'll soon sought them OUT!!!

As I said I was going to vote FOR IT ANYWAY, but such has the powers of that word that several members changed their mind mid stream. Having had a week to think about what's good for the club and of course what's best for us, lets discuss ***** for just one more time. To me, it's all about floating baits and how it can be abused! The way I think we may get around this is the Barford way and I think it could work for us. All we should do is ban any baits in the top 15inches of water! We don't allow floating baits anyway, so if we remove all baits in that area of water the dreaded ***** could be used! As for pop-ups I can't really see any harm in them! Because anyone popping up 18 inches off the bottom is no different than having no shot and float fishing 18 inches off the bottom! AS LONG as everyone knows that the top 15 inches no bait is allowed (unless margin fishing in 12 inches of water and then you will be on the bottom anyway!) I can't see any PROBLEM in it! (but I am quite thick).

As the meeting degenerated into a farce,the way we can get around this is to have an internet vote. (A FIRST FOR POT BLACK). One thing what we cannot forget is that ***** did get voted out by 9 -7 but what we cannot forget is that the ***** word was used a lot at that stage and we all know how high exposure can fry peoples minds. NEWS-FLASH:- The car park at Asda was evacuated and cordoned off on Friday when Pot Black Barmaid, Chrissie Baxter was found to have 3 loaves of ***** on her! Police later issued a statement saying that after intense cross examination for 18 hours the only comment she would say was that "there's darts on tonight, chuck!" Having no over evidence the police had to discharge her (but rumoured too late for the dart match) and after a controlled explosion in the car park, normal service was later resumed that morning.......

12 of the Club's saltest Sea Dogs & Three Pups descended on Pakefield Beach to brave the elements with the expectation of catching a fish or two!
Gavin (Chillo) phoned in late as he had to take a trip to Yoxford to pick up his cheap bait, I don't know about you, but £2 off his hundred lugworm don't quite look such a good deal after a sixty mile drive!! That lightweight Wayne Moore turned up with nothing but just himself! Not a single piece of gear at all and still had the cheek to moan about the tackle I lent him! Typical!!! The other usual suspects were two Yarco's, Mark(I've been banned from every fishing club in East Anglia) Coleman and Yarmouth's resident Mayor Bob Morris. Two Ipswich fans Mick & Ethan Mills and another father-son pairing Colin(skinge) Catchpole and soon to be a lookalike Steve. We also had the honour of Lowestoft's resident professional fisherman Martin (dingit) Waters with his up-and -coming son prodigy Kierron. Sadly, Banjo, one half of the usually inseparable twins had arrived, as his other side-kick had to do his community service at Naarwich City Football ground! The last group was lead by Pakefields own celebrity, the holder of the 2008 Monday Night League, the one and only (listen to the fanfare)Kelvin (tapered-leader)Chilvers and his two apprentices Jack and Louis.
The weather was kind and for some anglers the fish were kinder! Spawny Wayne Moore fluked a fluke(Flounder) first cast, when he was fishing so close to the shore(showing his inability to cast out) that his bait could be seen every time a wave went back! Little Kierron had a fish every cast to get right up his dads(dingits) nose so daddy then had to start dropping his bait right beside him but still couldn't catch anything!!! Mark (the sneak) Coleman was noticed dragging fish up the beach hoping no one would notice, but subtlety was never one of Mark's strong points.
My beach Buddy(tent ,to people not in the know) was stoned by Bad attitude Morris, Chillo, decided he was hungry and disappeared to MacDonalds but left all the rubbish with me and to cap it I had to listen to Wayne Moore running on all day about his flounder!!! The Beach telegraph had reports of Banjo catching a nice codling and with dabs and whiting coming out at regular intervals the weigh-in round Keville's would certainly close. As it was everyone managed top bring fish to the scales EXCEPT THE RESIDENT PRO MR. DINGIT and the weights were as follows:-

Right, that's it , another excellent season has drawn to a close. First, it was incredibly hard keeping exactly to the fixtures lists dates and times but, low and behold, we did it!!!! I got to say it's an absolute pleasure being in the company of such special human beings, seeing at hand the unyielding sportsmanship, humility and generally learning how to become a better person. To witness how our members, show such sympathy to our fellow anglers if anything goes wrong, brought tears into my eyes(usually from laughter) but NEVER did they revert to pointless abuse over anglers mis-fortunes. Ya-all-right!!!

Opps, I've just slipped over in the B***-S***, so I'd better let you all know when the big night is! SATURDAY I ST. NOVEMBER starting at 7.45pm.

I was going to do a character assassination of each and every one of you for the abuse I've suffered, but as only a certain number of the cretins who fish with us can use a computer I 've decided to save it for the night. Somehow we did not vote for the clubman of the year, it must have been the "only" thing I forgot ALL season. (we'll also do that on the night).

I'm just now finishing a separate page on the website it going to be "The Wayne Moore Appreciation Society" It's like a fan-club but more like an extreme cult version. We as a club, CANNOT let such a universal star be in our midst without celebrating it, so on NOV 1st, everyone must shave their heads to their back collar, ONLY eat choc bars and crisps, forget ANYTHING which is said more than 5 mins ago and NEVER BUY A DRINK!!!

We don't need to worry about him reading this, as his DAUGHTER will not give him the password on HIS computer so he can go on it !!! That sought of adds up!

MID SEASON MEETING

A Selection of Pot Black Anglers reluctantly drunk from the free bar, choked on the Kentucky and chips and generally had a sad time taking the "rise" out of each other! The fixtures were agreed at 2 weekly intervals (with a Thursday afternoon on the free week in between) with a couple of treble competitions to make it even more interesting. The end of season boat competition is still on BUT we do need names of people available, so we can book the boats!
BANJO brought a poster in about the end of season weekend away. It's penciled in on the weekend of Saturday 26th. September, staying Friday night, Fishing Sat, having a few beers, fishing Sunday then travelling home Sunday tea time. The cost is £27 a night, including breakfast & FREE fishing(a great deal and we are staying in a Pub to boot). NAMES NEED TO BE FORWARDED ASAP AS THE PUB WILL ONLY HOLD THE ROOMS FOR SO LONG!!
The most the pub can sleep is 11 people so be warned!!.(SEE POSTER FOR MORE DETAILS)
Rules put forward for next year.

1) Shaking hands is definitely a NO.NO!
2) Bread will be brought back if Ardo fishes Topcroft
3) The fruit machine is put in the middle of the lounge so we don't have to talk to Nigel's

CREAM COMES TO THE TOP(Match 11)

After Sundays match at Topcroft the league positions have changed yet again! With only two league matches to go, last years "champ" has hit top spot by pulling his partner through yet again! With a weight of 23lb (his partner with 40 odd lb) the 5 points were in the bag! Some say this is pure luck but I like to think that he must inspire his doubles partners to new heights!
The man, bag on form is the "method man", the mad American Indian, BRUCE, who is showing everyone up right now! Ever since he's been having therapy there's no holding him! I've got to say the language from "£50" Moore was disgusting, but wasn't it nice to see "Skip" catch a few so we don't hear consistant whine all day! (mind u Ardo was missing!) Other things to note was:- Mark C. lost his rag, shane lost his dummy,Bob Morris turned up on time(he never gets it wrong you know),Kierron whooped his old man,Aaron fished the whole match(if u can call his pathetic weight fishing),Butli upset a pleasure angler before we even started by playing his Cliff Richard CD to loud and Steve Moyse didn't turn up because he had a couple of shandies(what a lightweight)!!

Derek Kirby popped into the the Club with his new catch and asked how you reprobates were getting on and said he would follow all the news on the Blog from his new home down South! He also hinted that your all crap fisherman, but you couldn't find a better bunch of lads.!!!Good on yer son !!

It's been several weeks since I've written anything, but it's all been progressing quite nicely. The first match I've missed was Railway, Barford. It was cold especially if you were one of the unlucky ones facing the stiff northerly breeze(won't it Bob!!!). Anyway, big boy Shane (we're not talking trouser bulges now!) wiped everyone out with 25 lb on the feeder earning his partner Bob Morris another 5 points (nice to see if he can do it in the singles, freeloader). 4 points went to Aaron and Whispering Bob Harrod and 3rd. was Wayne the spawn Moore and look-good Keith Knights. The person voted the crappiest caster was ace photographer & scrounger Max Wall who lost all his feeders in the trees but Mark Coleman beat that easy by just about clearing the whole island and poaching the geezer opposite swim, who's fishing for another club!!!
The Thursday match at Berghampton lived up to expectation and was nearly a good day for everybody! Fish were plentiful, especially if you feeder fished the island! The ironic thing was on one side the lads sunbathed and the other they froze!!! We had great pleasure rubbing it in to the skipper (who looked like an Eskimo with the amount of gear he had on) and Ardo (who don't take much to have a whinge!) but they still weighed in 25 & 41lb respectively. The winner was Arron with 73 lb, second was me with 61 lb and third was dingit with 57 lb. Bob Morris, although poaching my swim all day and catching 2 fish to everyone of mine came 4th. with 54lb..(Incredible when he had his second net in the water by 1PM!!!!!!!) Condolences to Steve Moyse who did get the shit-swim...

The last match was Spring Lake Tasburgh. There was a weather warning and boy did they get it right! This was the coldest and wettest I've felt since Dover breakwater but it did cheer everybody else up! Dingit won with 31 lb( off a pucker swim on the lawn) second was Boycie(who had the Golden peg) with 23 lb & third was the spawny git (WAYNE) with 19 lb. For all those lightweights who packed up and went home early I'M glad their not fighting for us in Afghanistan!

Those who are through to the last eight of the knockout are Butch, Mark Coleman,Paul Chilvers,Dingit,Wayne,Shane,Max & Steve Moyse. Well Done Lads!!!

Sixteen turned out which is remarkable being so many were unavailable. The weather was great ,in fact some of us got burnt, but on the down side there were some grotesque sights when a few got their shirts off! It was the type of match that was expected,with the choice of tiddler bashing or going for monsters. Aaron Ayers sweeped up (mind you he was all by his self on the other bank) and won the golden peg and the match with 24lb 4oz, collecting 59 bucks(spawny git). Second was lucky Wally with 22 lb 15 1/2 oz who was was content fishing for small stuff (just to show Ardo how it's done) only to foul hook a 15lb 6 1/2 mirror with a scabby gob! On the gear I had on I was pretty chuffed to get it in! Third was Mark Coleman who done excellent to get a mixed bag of Crucians,tench and silvers for 20lb 2oz. Everyone got a fish of some sort except Dingit who got snapped off 4 times!! NEXT MATCH IS RAILWAY LAKE BARFORD, AND THE SHEET IS UP!

The tips for Sunday are as follows..... The winning weight will not be enormous but everyone will catch fish (so he tells me). Last Sunday was won with 38 lb. with a bag of 21 crucian carp and 3 tench. A bloke had a 24 lb bag of roach. 3 of which went 5lb between them!!! All the carp are big ones ranging from 10lb to 20 plus. Baits are maggots, casters for roach and sweet corn & pellets for crucian and tench. So all you've got to choose which fish your targeting and hope the weather stays good!!!!! Tight Lines!!!!

COLTON'S MATCH N SUNDAY 27 TH. APRIL

The match last Sunday was won at a canter by the pairing of Bob(hot-shot) Morris & Max( I've got no gear, can I please borrow all yours) Wall with weight of 64 lb. Second was Steve Moyse & Butch with 29lb 2oz and third was Paul Chilvers & John Batley with 24 lb 20z( with poor old John blanking but still collecting 3 pts and £5 for his troubles). Wayne(the Don) hooked on to a spawny rogue carp down the edge to post the biggest fish of the season with a nice 12lb 4oz. 18 fished with 6 blankers with yours truly being one of them. I told you it was a peggy water!!!!! Never mind, maybe I'll get a fish on my new pole on the third attempt. I WON'T HOLD MY BREATH!!!!!!!

BARFORD THURSDAY THURS 24 APRIL

15 Fisherman(a loose description), a good turn out for a Thursday, I think everyone wanted to wet their lines for the coming season. A bit cold still for us, but most of us had a good day! Fish were a bit scarce on the bottom ,so the ones who used a pellet waggler seemed more fruitful!!
Top of the pops, just back from a time out year living with Bob Nudd, was Whispering Bob Harrod with 35 lb 8oz who was blanking until 2pm but went berserk with paste catching 6 good carp.The other Bob," have u changed the fixture again" Morris, on the golden peg had 4 fish in the first hour and like his wife said "he can't keep it up" and ended with 29lb 3 oz to pip "Wa" into 3rd. place. Banjo was 4th. and PAUL Blowers(thats a turn up) in 5th. A total of 164lb (not much but we'll put it down to the temperature of the water and not we are crap fisherman) with 9 catchers and 6 (b)lankers! The usual things happened:- shane had a good sleep,Mosey Jnr caught a carp before the match started with no bait, but packed up before time(lucky Sarah locked the front gates), Ardo caught his Quota of whitebait,Nigee-well he's just nigee!!!
Has anyone seen N0 1 Don, The Pro, Wayne"the Don" Moore, well he was there and everyone did hear when he hadn't had a bite for 3 hours, so our tip for the week for you is take a Pack-up!!!

WALLY'S TIPS

Daniel from Barford said that the match lake has been fishing good and one bloke weighed in over 300 lb already this season . The carp are showing on top, with the middle pegs fishing good on the Pellet waggler. On the bottom the usual baits of maggot, corn & Cat meat are doing the best and the end pegs are more likely to catch in the margins.
At Colton they have been getting bags up to 100 lb but as the fish average about 8 LB each
you don't need many.Maggots and castors are the preferred baits getting anywhere from the bottom right up to a foot below the surface. Margins again more likely in the corners, but because of the cold weather the season is a wee bit behind. Wayne and Boycie has been seen regularly spying from the undergrowth but will probably deny it!

The thursday fixture (24th. April ) fishing Barford Match Lake from 10 to 4pm, meeting Carlton Crown car park 8am, is on the board ready for names. Those people who paid match fees will be returned them on the day (as explained at the meeting we only collect £6 for sundays, as this PRIZE MONEY is kept back till the end of the season) and everyrthing else is collected at peg draw on car park!!!!! (thicko's).
Also the Sunday Match at Colton April 27th. is ready for names, fishing 10 to 3pm, again meeting Carlton Crown at 8am. I'm ringing the lake Monday to confirm everything so I'll be asking Daniel how the two Lakes are Fishing( Methods & baits, etc.), so , all the people who can be bothered to log on and read the blogspot will be the ones to find out all the info! The rest can shove it for not bothering.
P.S. I done my knee in the weekend, so I'm walking around like a cripple, so if I can fish I will, if not I'll still be there taking the piss out of YOU!

I was driving past Beccles Lakes when I saw some anglers fishing in the freezing cold and thought what a lot of bloody Mugs! Then it dawned it was their Saturday Match and thought I'd better have a Deco and see if there's any fish around! Walking round I thought these Guys look fairly decrepid, then I saw this funny looking Dumpty crouching under an umbrella. I thought he looks familar and low & behold there was our Wayne Moore trying it on to get some easy cash!!

It was weighing in time and I just got to Wayne's Peg to here him squeal " I don't think I'll weigh these in today". The guy on the scales insisted and you'll never guess what, our DON of the Pot Black Club came bloody LAST!!!! What an embarressment!!! The so called best angler we've got, got beat up by a load of Pensioners & Kids!!! The thing is he wanting to get some water time in to build up his confidence and look what happens!! The camera is always going to be ready this year so be WARNED!!!!
